The Black Excellence in Music, Culture, and Sports (BET) Awards were held on Sunday.
With a brilliant performance of her most recent song, “About Damn Time,” Lizzo opened the Taraji P. Henson-hosted program.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision to reverse Roe v. Wade on Friday, a number of the presenters, performers, and award recipients made calls for action.
But there were also happy moments. Brandy performed unexpectedly with Jack Harlow, and Mariah Carey performed unexpectedly with Latto. Both artists struck very astounding high notes.
A lifetime achievement award was given to Sean “Diddy” Combs. Numerous musicians, including Mary J. Blige and Kanye West, as well as past partners in crime honored him.
Will Smith, who slapped Chris Rock on stage just before winning the best actor Oscar at the Academy Awards, took home the BET Award for best actor on Sunday.
