Safari could get a dark theme upgrade in next iOS update

iOS might get a new dark mode for Safari soon.

It seems like Safari will be getting a major overhaul in the forthcoming iOS 15 release. Users will be able to customise the Dark mode of their web browsers, as well as the websites they visit, using this new feature.

There is currently no method to move back and forth between dark and light mode without having to go into the options. According to rumours, a new version would allow users to activate dark mode on certain websites.

Users may now switch between Light and Dark mode on a per-website basis to accommodate websites that may not show correctly in either mode.

Webkit, the engine behind Apple’s Safari browser, was the source of this new feature’s discovery. 9to5Mac discovered a new feature in Webkit’s open-source code that permits “overriding the default color-scheme with a per-website choice”

As of iOS 13, many users have chosen to utilise the dark mode as their default option. As a result of its widespread use, several of the largest websites on the internet have made changes to their user interfaces to accommodate Dark mode. In the darkened display mode, certain websites may not appear properly, however this version should help fix that issue.

The Webkit engine has been updated with many new features in addition to the Dark mode. In addition, it seems that Apple is working on technologies that enable users to stop pop-ups that appear to be system notifications. New API for managing “Cookie Consent” agreements is also said to be under development by Apple, according to reports.

There is no set date on when these new features will be available. The Webkit engine lists them as “TBA” (until further notice). When iOS 16 is slated to be released later this year, Apple may add them in the next iOS 15 upgrade, which might be discussed at the forthcoming Apple Peek Performance event on March 8. Source
