What Samsung might (and should) be doing with its next-generation foldable phone as Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4.
If the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is anything to go by, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a lot of ground to make up. However, the foldable phone formula hasn’t yet been perfected, so there’s still opportunity for development.
There are just a few speculations floating around regarding the Galaxy Z Fold 4 right now, and nothing is known for certain about its specifications or capabilities. However, there are a slew of features we’re hoping Samsung will include, like better cameras and, perhaps, a more seamless S Pen pen integration.
In the following, you’ll find out what we expect to see in Samsung’s next foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Check out our Samsung in 2022 article to learn more about the Korean company’s plans for the coming year.

Release date for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
When it comes to the likely introduction of the new Z Fold 4, both leaks and our expert assumptions are on the same page. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 was released in August, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 was released in September the year before that. Both were released in the late summer/early fall. As a result, the Z Fold 4 should arrive around the same time as the Z Fold 3.
The iPhone 14 is expected to be released in the middle of September, and we believe Samsung would want to avoid a mid-September launch.
Samsung’s Z Fold 4: How Much Does It Cost?
According to a report from Korean leaker yeux1122 on Korean site Naver, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will be cheaper than the Z Fold 3, which would be excellent news considering the Z Fold 3’s $1,799 price tag.
We may see a $400 decline in the price of the Z Fold 4 over the next two years if the Galaxy Z Fold 2 costs $1,999 when it launches in 2020. Foldable phones are currently prohibitively costly, but as the price gap narrows, more and more people will be enticed to buy them.
The design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
When it comes to the Z Fold 4, we’re still expecting Samsung to keep with the same basic design as the Z Fold 3. However, a leaker has already tipped off to a few adjustments.
Reworking the hinge and strengthening the phone’s waterproofing and dustproofing are among the ideas being considered by Samsung, according to a post on the Korean blogging site Naver. We’d like a phone that’s less prone to water and dust harm.
A fresh rumour indicates that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 will not feature a space for the S Pen, which would be disappointing if true. As one of our gripes with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and something Samsung could easily fix, this seems like a weird move by Samsung.
Another report indicates that the front display of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 may change, with Samsung experimenting with its aspect ratio in the Z Fold 4 prototypes. According to Chunv8888, a Twitter user who claims to be an insider for Samsung, the company is considering a variety of potential designs for the next Z Fold 3.
If Samsung were to abandon the present book-style fold structure, there are a number of additional options it might pursue. There are three designs for portable foldable gadgets on display at Samsung Display at CES 2022. In two of them, the panels are divided into three sections by an s-folding design, while the third is a “slidable” that can be made wider or narrower at will. It’s possible that Samsung may only use these concepts for future Z Fold phones, although the Z Fold 4 adopting the s-fold form appears doable.
Rumors have been circulating throughout Korea. According to Elec, Samsung may be developing a Galaxy Z Fold 4 with an integrated S Pen. Since the Galaxy S22 Ultra has one, this would make a lot of sense (like the Galaxy Notes of old). As a result, the stylus would be able to fit into a silo on the Fold 4. Since the Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a storage issue for the attachment, this would make travelling with the S Pen a snap.
The cameras on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 are better than ever before.
Compared to previous Samsung phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 debuted the company’s first in-display camera on the primary display. Another under-display camera is rumoured to be added to the cover display of the Z Fold 4 by a Korean source.
If Samsung doesn’t enhance the under-display camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, it’s not ideal to have another one. This is exactly what the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to achieve, with a number of under-screen camera enhancements expected…
The battery of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
It’s sad that the sole rumour concerning the Z Fold 4’s power source is bad news. According to this, Samsung will maintain the battery size of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 around the same.
As a downside of foldable phones, they have a larger screen to power, even though the battery is smaller or equal to that of a comparable phone. The battery life of the Z Fold 3 isn’t great, but if Samsung doesn’t change the amount of the battery, the phone will have to be more efficient in other areas if it wants to survive a whole day without being plugged in.
Galaxy Z Fold: What we would want to see from Samsung.
The Z Fold 4 rumours may not have satisfied your desire for Z Fold 4 information, but we also have a few wishes for the foldable.
Using the “Galaxy Flex Note” as a starting point, Samsung could do a lot worse than duplicating this appealing-looking design based on a patent submitted by Samsung. The Z Fold series would be the natural successor to the Galaxy Note line, which may have come to an end with the cancellation of the Galaxy Note 21 earlier this year. We appreciate how this design has only one display and yet has place for the S Pen pen.

The Z Fold 4 might get some of the same or even more features that we’ve seen on previous Samsung phones and are expected to see in the future. While the Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition from Samsung has a variety of colour options, the Z Fold 4 has a distinct level of customizability due to the fact that one side of the folded phone is still full screen.
Similarly, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 may have new components like the Snapdragon 898/895 or Samsung’s latest LPDDR5X RAM. If they are going to be in phones this year, we’ll presumably see them first on the Samsung Galaxy S22.
a much more effective cameras
This year’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 boasts a similar combination of cameras to last year’s model, with the exception of the internal selfie camera being replaced with one hidden behind the display.
It would be fantastic if the Z Fold 4’s cameras were better all around. Even if Samsung isn’t focusing on photography with its foldables, bigger or higher-resolution sensors would still be a nice feature. It would also be wonderful if Space Zoom had more power.
Build in onboard S Pen storage
Next-generation foldables might benefit from the S Pen pen launched in Samsung’s Z Fold 3, which was debuted in the Z Fold 3. To avoid having to carry around a S Pen separately or in a specially designed case, Samsung hopes to include the pen into its new Galaxy Z Fold 4 design, as shown in this concept image.
As the Galaxy S22 Ultra is expected to include a S Pen slot, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 should as well.
Another reduction in the cost of goods and services
Because of the success of the Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung should follow suit and reduce the price of its foldable phones to a level that is more in line with other high-end flagships. According to yeux1122, this was said, but it doesn’t imply anything right now. Between now and the phone’s launch, a lot may happen.
Better-hidden display wrinkles
One disadvantage of watching material on a foldable display is that the creases in the screen might occasionally detract from the viewing experience. But it would be wonderful if the crease faded away a little more.
Frames that are less bulky
It’s going to be difficult to make a foldable phone very small due to the nature of folding the primary display in half. However, the most common criticism we hear from those who have used the Z Fold 3 is how heavy and cumbersome it is to transport. The Z Fold 4 may use a few more tenths of an inch of reduction in overall size.
Battery life extension
Because the Z Fold 3 has to power two screens, including one the size of a small tablet, it has a disadvantage going in. Our tests showed a battery life of less than eight hours, and we’d want to see that number rise to closer to ten hours by making use of a bigger battery and other efficiency improvements.
