So, what is today’s Wordle answer for game #255?
Well, it’s a tricky one — the answer is RUPEE.
I was just moaning the other day about how easy the prior games had been. Today, on the other hand, was everything but that, at least for me. In the end, I guessed correctly, but only after spending much too much time trying out various combinations in the vain hope of finding some inspiration.
Although many people were aware of it, not everyone was clear on what it meant, as seen by Twitter’s response to the news.
According to Word and Phrase Info, RUPEE is not one of the top 60,000 most commonly used terms in the English language, making it the least popular word to appear in Wordle lately.
In addition, the word features a double E at the end and the least frequent vowel in U, making it rare in certain regions of the globe.
It’s true that rupee isn’t a widespread term in English, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist in other languages. Several nations, like India and Pakistan, utilise the rupee as their currency, making it a popular choice.

With only a single guess and STARE as my starting word, I was almost halfway there with a yellow and green letter each.
As CRONE is a popular beginning combination, O is the second most common vowel, and N is a common letter, I decided to go with it. But it didn’t help me in any way.
I was at a loss for words at this point, and couldn’t come up with any more suitable ones. For some reason, even though I knew there would be at least one more vowel there, I went with RHYME. A waste of time, but it confirmed the R in its position.
As a result, I landed on RIDGE as the solution, mostly because it made the most efficient use of the common letters I still possessed. However, this time I was given just the two letters I previously had, leaving me with nothing but blanks.
In a state of panic, I began scribbling down any phrases that came to me as I tried various combinations without pushing enter. There weren’t many that came up, but REVUE was one that seemed reasonable. Even though it was incorrect, it gave me a few more letters, and RUPEE was the only response I could come up with for my last attempt.
In other words, today’s Wordle was a roller coaster—and I don’t think I’m the only one who was affected.
