History
In the year 1803, an iron foundry was established in the town of Wawa. For the Wawa Dairy Farm, George Wood, a New Jersey entrepreneur, relocated to Pennsylvania in 1890. Wood imported Guernsey cows and purchased 400 acres (1,000 hectares) of property in the Chester Heights region, which would eventually be called Wawa. Many youngsters were ill as a result of drinking raw milk since pasteurisation was not yet widely accessible. Customers were encouraged to purchase Wood’s milk by the fact that it had been certified as safe for eating by physicians. The plan succeeded, and Wawa Dairy was able to expand. Dairy products were more popular in the 1920s, and the firm was able to keep up with demand. Customers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey were serviced by Wawa, which started utilising the tagline “Buy Health by the Bottle.”

As part of a new retail trend, convenience shops, Wawa Food Markets opened. They were open sooner and later than regular supermarkets, and they sold goods from the Wawa dairy as well as other foods and drinks.
Wawa started offering profit-sharing programmes to its employees in 1977 as a way of distributing ownership of the business to them. Wawa’s Employee Shares Ownership Plan (ESOP) was established in 1992, and colleagues were granted stock each year based on the previous year’s service. Products
Wawa has many of the same items as other convenience stores, such as chips, soda, and water. Besides iced tea and orange juice, Wawa also carries milk. However, Wawa’s branded soda has been discontinued. Coca-Cola Freestyle is available at Wawa.
Specialties include custom-made hoagies and an array of espresso drinks (such as latte and cappuccino) in various flavours and sizes. “Sizzli” is one of Wawa’s best-known brands of hot breakfast dishes, and the deli section has touch-screen ordering of sandwiches, hot sides and beverages. Florida, Virginia, and certain Pennsylvania locations of Wawa serve alcoholic beverages.
Wawa carried Pizza Hut personal pan pizzas and Taco Bell burritos for a brief period between 1994 and 1996.
Burgers and waffle fries were tried at six Wawa locations in 2020. While testing a supper menu later in the year, Wawa began serving it at certain locations. Dinner options include burgers, fries, spaghetti, and a rotisserie chicken dish on the buffet.
