There is little meaningful competition in the tablet market for the iPad.
For the fourth quarter and the full year 2021, according to a recent analysis from the analytics company Canalys, Apple’s iPad remained the market leader in the tablet business in the United States. When Amazon came in second, it delivered 19.1 million iPads, which virtually quadrupled its shipments for the year, with a market share of 42.1 percent.
Despite its domination, the company’s 2021 iPad shipments would be down 17% from sales in the previous year, according to the research.
For both Q4 and the whole year, Apple retained its position as the world’s most popular tablet vendor, with 19.1 million iPads supplied, a 17 percent dip from 2020. A total of 10.9 million devices were sold by Amazon and 7.9 million units by Samsung as the country’s leading Android sellers. In comparison to the same time period in 2020, demand for both products was somewhat low throughout the Christmas season. Both Microsoft and Lenovo ranked fourth and fifth in the tablet market for 2021 in terms of sales volume.
During the last year, Apple’s market share in the PC (desktop and laptop) sector climbed by 12 percent. However, it has overtaken Acer and other PC makers in the rankings.
For the whole year of 2021, HP dominated the market for PCs excluding tablets, thanks to a strong position in the Chromebook market, which led to difficulties in Q4 when demand from the education category decreased. This was Dell’s best-ever year, with Q4 sales topping 22.0 million units and a second-place finish overall. Lenovo came in third position, with a growth rate of 11 percent over the next five years. In fifth place was Acer, which is expected to rise as well in 2020.
Is there anything more we should know about the Mac and iPad in the near future? A new iPad Air and at least one new Apple silicon-powered Mac should be announced during Apple’s planned March presentation.
