Apple has been trying to replace Intel CPUs in its entire Mac series with Apple silicon chips since 2020 Apple’s 2022 Mac Pro Refresh, and that transition is projected to be complete in 2022 at the latest. Mac Pro is one of the primary Mac models currently powered by Intel CPUs, however a new model is expected to be released in 2022.
Everything we know so far about Apple’s intentions for the next Mac Pro is included in this guide.
Design
Rumor has it that Apple is working on two Mac Pro releases at the same time. One of the machines is an upgrade to the existing range, while the other is a brand-new computer with a more compact footprint that replaces the 2019 Mac Pro.
Mac Pro is likely to employ the same stainless steel and aluminium shell, with a double logic board and simple access to the inside for installing and removing components, in the bigger model. As far as we know, the thermal architecture will remain same with the same three-dimensional interconnecting hemispheres.
In terms of the smaller Mac Pro, it’s been characterised as resembling the current Mac Pro, but with a smaller enclosure that’s half its size. As Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has observed, it might “invoke nostalgia” for the Power Mac G4 Cube, which had a largely metal shell.
Leaker of varying degrees of success According to Jon Prosser, the smaller Mac Pro might resemble “three to four Mac minis piled on top of one another” with a “compute unit on the bottom” and a “huge heat sink on top.”
Silicone Chips from Apple
In Gurman’s estimation, the bigger Mac Pro will continue to run on Intel CPUs, while the smaller one will be powered by Apple chips.
Apple is working on very high-powered Apple silicon chips for the Mac Pro, but the early versions may not be able to compete with Xeon processors for intensive workloads and there may also be problems about software compatibility.. For this reason, we may see both an Intel Mac Pro and an Apple silicon Mac Pro produced at the same time.
Half-sized Mac Pro is projected to include “the equivalent of either two or four M1 Max processors,” making it significantly more powerful than 2021 MacBook Pro versions that have the M1 Max chips.. A 20-core processor and 64-core graphics processor are projected in the first Apple silicon chip; a 40-core processor and 128-core graphics processor are predicted in the second more powerful chip.
At least two dies will be used for the M1 Max processor, according to The Information in November, and future versions might have as many as four, which would allow for a larger number of cores than are now present in the MacBook Pro.
Apple might employ Intel’s third-generation Xeon Scalable processors, known as Lake SP, in the Intel-based Mac Pro. Ahead to macOS Monterey’s release, an Xcode 13 beta showed signs of these chips.
The date of its release
If rumours are true, the Mac Pro might debut as early as June 2022, at the Worldwide Developers Conference. Apple may show off the machine during the event and then ship it later in the autumn, allowing software developers time to produce professional applications for Apple silicon processors that are more powerful.
