Longer battery life may be possible thanks to Apple’s new 5G modem in the iPhone 14.
Several significant improvements to the iPhone 14 range are expected, and now it seems that improved battery life may also be on the horizon. The reason for this is because Apple is said to be intending to incorporate a new 5G processor in the upcoming iPhone, which might reduce the phone’s battery consumption while still delivering a high level of performance.
As reported by Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) purportedly got Apple’s 5G chip orders for its future iPhone 14 range.
As a consequence of the 6nm manufacturing technique, the supplier could create a chip that is physically smaller, thereby reducing power consumption without losing performance, according to the report.
Additionally, a smaller 5G processor might allow Apple to include a bigger battery inside the device. As a result, the battery life of the phone might be improved by using the chip mentioned in this article.
According to the article, the chip might handle Wi-Fi 6E connection, which would be in line with prior speculations and leaks about the chip’s capabilities. To put it another way, Wi-Fi 6E would give much better performance and reduced latency than Wi-Fi 6.
For the predicted iPhone 14 range, Apple is expected to employ Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X65 modem. This is because Apple has a four-year chip supply deal with Qualcomm. If the deal between Apple and Qualcomm is to be believed, Apple had previously planned to employ the Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 modem in last year’s iPhone 13 range, according to a court document from the settlement.
Although Apple is said to be planning to stop using Qualcomm’s 5G modem in 2023, it is possible that the iPhone 15 models may utilise Apple’s own 5G modem. Apple didn’t pay $1 billion for Intel’s modem unit in 2019 for nothing.
According to Chinese news outlet UDN, a trial run of the iPhone 14 range has already begun. Shadow leak, a reliable source of Apple information, has lately claimed that the iPhone 14 series would have a 90Hz display, which is lower than the 120Hz we had hoped for. A 120Hz refresh rate will still be available on the iPhone 14 Pro series. According to a new leak, there will be no under-display Touch ID.
There are a number of Apple product launches slated for 2022, including the iPhone 14, which is set to go on sale later this year.
