The development of Dragon Age 4 has been revealed in a new blog post.
The development of Dragon Age 4 has been going on for a long time, but perhaps we’ll get to see it sooner rather than later. With the release of a big update on the game’s development process, BioWare seems to be around halfway through their intended cycle. Possibly if Dragon Age 4 isn’t expected until 2022 or even 2023, everything about the game seems to be exactly where it needs to be for the time being.
A blog post by BioWare general manager Gary McKay on the studio’s website lays out a substantial Dragon Age 4 update. There are five phases of game development: Concept, Pre-Production, Production, Beta and Alpha. DA4 is now in the third slot.
“For the upcoming Dragon Age, we are in the thick of production, which is a terrific feeling,” McKay writes. ‘Our blueprint was finished last year, so now we’re focusing on expanding out our vision: developing stunning locations, interesting characters, excellent gameplay, effective writing, emotive cinematics – and many more. Everyone on the squad knows exactly how the game is supposed to be played, so there’s no confusion there.
McKay also identifies a few crucial players in the production of Dragon Age 4. Mass Effect Legendary Edition production designer Mac Walters has worked with BioWare for 18 years. The game will be directed by Corrine Busche, a 15-year veteran of Electronic Arts. After working as a Lead Systems Designer at BioWare, Busche also worked on The Sims expansions and other EA titles before that.
According to McKay, we won’t have to wait too long for further Dragon Age 4 updates:
“Dragon Age team blogs and social media activity will be increasingly prevalent later this year. We’ll be in constant contact with our community council members as we go through construction.”
The development of Dragon Age 4 has been rocky to say the least, with the first stages of the game’s development going back to 2015. So much time has been wasted on this project because it moved from a single-player adventure, to a live-service, multiplayer gaming experience, back to the original single-player adventure again. During that period, several major members of the BioWare team have left, including director of games Mike Laidlaw and studio director Christian Dailey.
Check back in with us later this year for a possible major update to Dragon Age 4. The whole series is available on Xbox Game Pass via EA Play at this time.
