According to the developer release notes for the forthcoming software upgrade, Apple will no longer provide Python 2.7 with macOS 12.3. Python 2 has not been supported since January 1, 2020, and no bug fixes, security patches, or other updates are being released.
Apple recommends that developers use an alternate programming language, such as Python 3, instead, however it’s worth remembering that Python 3 is also not preloaded on macOS. Developers may use Terminal to execute the stub /usr/bin/python3, but it encourages them to install the Xcode development tools, which contain Python 3. In the developer release notes for macOS Catalina in 2019, Apple cautioned that future versions of macOS will not feature Python 2.7.
