Apple revised its macOS 12.3 beta release notes today to warn macOS Catalina customers of a possible boot loop issue when installing the macOS 12.3 or macOS 11.6.4 betas on a separate APFS drive with FileVault enabled.
“If your Mac is presently running macOS Catalina, installing macOS Monterey 12.3 beta or macOS Big Sur 11.6.4 beta on a disc with FileVault enabled may result in a boot loop when attempting to log back into the prior volume,” Apple warns.
It is possible to install macOS on a second APFS volume on a Mac running macOS High Sierra or later and then move between versions of macOS, including betas, as if they were on distinct discs.
