iOS 15.4 update reportedly causing battery drain issues as complaints pour in

In this day and age, we’re living in an iOS 15.4 universe. Following a testing period that started in late January, Apple has launched an updated version of its iOS 15 software. With the release of Apple’s new green iPhone 13 and 13 Pro models on Friday, iOS 15.4 will be available for existing iPhones. This version is also pre-installed on the aforementioned iPhone SE (2022).

iOS 15 debuted a flurry of new features in the autumn of last year, and following upgrades have continued to expand on those capabilities. We’ve already seen iOS 15 upgrades that included SharePlay for FaceTime conversations and a new privacy report for all the applications loaded on your iPhone.

It was clear from the start that iOS 15.4 was going to be a significant update for iOS 15, as seen by the beta release. For the most part, iOS 15.4 introduces a slew of repairs and adjustments, but there isn’t anything like SharePlay or the App Privacy Report. Mask-wearing iPhone owners who haven’t been able to unlock their phones with Face ID since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak will be particularly pleased by this new feature. States may now begin implementing digital IDs for keeping your driver’s licence or state ID card in the Wallet app, thanks to this development.

Apple has released iOS 15.4 with a slew of new features, and we’ve put up a list of the most fascinating ones here.

39 security issues have been addressed in the latest iOS 15.4 update. As a result, we’d have to make some changes.

Release date of iOS 15.4

It was announced on March 14th that iOS 15.4 will be available for download. Before the March 18 introduction of the iPhone SE (2022) and a new colour choice for the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, Apple released a software update. These three devices are all powered by Apple’s latest mobile operating system, iOS 15.4.

However, if you have a compatible iPhone, you may now enjoy iOS 15.4. Tap on General in the Settings app, and the over-the-air update will be yours. After selecting Software Updates, you’ll see iOS 15.4. To download and install iOS 15.4, all you have to do is follow the onscreen instructions.

Before making any changes to your iPhone, save a full backup first. During the update, you’ll probably want to keep your iPhone plugged in.

It’s possible to utilise the iOS 15.4 upgrade if your existing iPhone is capable of running iOS 15. This includes the iPhone 6s and newer, as well as the most recent iPod touch. iPadOS 15.4 will have many of these same capabilities, as well as the introduction of Universal Control.

Put on a mask and use Face ID

You can now enable Face ID on iOS 15.4 so that Apple’s unlocking technology can detect your face even when it is disguised by a mask. We originally reported this when the first developer beta of iOS 15.4 came, since it is rather significant. If you’re willing to give up some security in exchange for the convenience of not having to enter your password every time you want to unlock your phone, this feature is for you!

There’s a new option under Face ID & Passcode that lets you use the function while wearing a mask. You’ll be prompted to scan your face once again if you enable this feature. Even if you’re wearing a mask, Face ID should unlock your phone whenever you look at it.

Only iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 devices are supported. While the iOS 15.4 beta on my iPhone 13 has the Use with Face Mask feature, the identical beta on my iPhone 11 Pro Max does not.

iOS 15.4 beta included a prompt to gaze down at the phone while you’re wearing a mask in order to improve Face ID recognition.

For Siri, there’s a new voice.

Siri’s default voice was changed to a male one in iOS 14.5 last year, which was a significant move for the iPhone’s digital assistant. Because Apple was concerned about making Siri more accessible, they made it possible for you to choose your preferred Siri voice.

This new Siri speech option, which will be available to U.S. customers in iOS 15.4, is said to be gender-neutral, based on media sources. It is possible to try out Voice 5 by going to the Siri & Search under Settings section and choosing Siri Voice.

Notes and Reminders may now be accessed through Live Text.

Live Text is a feature in iOS 15 that enables you to copy and paste text from your phone’s camera into other applications. With iOS 15.4, the Live Text functionality has been improved to work better with Notes and Reminders.

Both apps have added a Scan Text option to the pop-up menu that displays while scanning text. When you click on it, a camera window will open, allowing you to take a screenshot or copy text from a book or note. Once you’ve recorded all the text you need, you may touch insert to have it appear in your Note or Reminder.

The new Apple Pay login screen and the new Tap to Pay payment method are available.

When I accidentally double-click the side button on my iPhone while it’s in my pocket, I get annoyed because it launches Apple Pay. My phone’s lock screen is now a list of all the credit and debit cards I’ve ever saved on it. It’s a pretty unnerving experience.

I don’t know whether this is an issue for other iPhone owners, but Apple has added a little level of protection to their devices. When you double-click the side button, an authentication page opens that requires either Face ID or a password verification before your credit cards and passes show. You may also bypass the login screen if you’ve enabled Face ID on your iPhone to operate with masks.

Those aren’t the only new features in iOS 15.4 for Apple’s digital wallet. In the latest version of Apple’s software, a new feature called Tap to Pay is being introduced that will enable iPhone owners to accept contactless payments directly on their devices. When it comes to small businesses, the changeover is considered as a method for them to take mobile payments without the need for any additional technology.

In iOS 15.4, there are a lot of new emoji.

It’s not an iOS update unless there are more than three dozen new emojis for you to use in your texts, tweets, and emails, and iOS 15.4 delivers.

Thirty seven characters are included in the emoji set. Both a woman and a man are represented by the “pregnancy” emoji. Biting lip, beans, a troll, and a jar are some of the other symbols you’ll see. The Unicode Consortium gave its approval to all of the new emoji in iOS 15.4 in September.

The Magnifier app now has new camera choices.

To assist me understand labels and hard-to-see language, I’ve configured my iPhone’s side button to activate the Magnifier app. New camera modes in iOS 15.4 have made it possible for me to switch between the various cameras on my iPhone.

With some digging into the Magnifier app’s configuration options, you’ll be able to swap between different lenses. Depending on the phone you have, you’ll be able to use a variety of cameras. Auto, Telephoto, Macro and Selfie settings are all now available on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. iPhone 13’s dual-camera system is limited to wide-angle selfies and video.

Even though this function was evident in the iOS 15.4 beta, the current version I’m running on many devices seems to have lost it. For the Magnifier app beta, Apple has been adjusting the ability to switch between cameras, so we’ll see whether this feature makes the final release.

Keychain Password Notes

Stored passwords may be easily accessed on your iPhone keychain, making it easier to enter into websites and other apps. A notes field, on the other hand, is brand new in iOS 15.4. You may jot down password reminders under the Settings app’s Passwords section.

What’s the point of that? The Passwords area may be used to look for such notes as well. If you’re having trouble remembering what app or website to log into, just enter in the name of what you’re trying to get into instead.

Improvements to AirTag’s anti-stalking system

With this update, Apple has begun rolling out improvements to AirTag and the Find My iPhone app. A new pop-up warning you that monitoring someone without their permission is illegal, and that victims and law enforcement may access your information through the tag if it is found, has been added to the AirTag setup process.

AirTag detection alerts may now be disabled, however other Find My things will now be appropriately recognised rather than showing up with a useless generic notice.

Apple has promised to continue adding anti-stalking capabilities to AirTag until 2022, so this won’t be the last we hear about it.

Digital IDs have arrived.

The ability to store drivers licences and state ID cards digitally in the Wallet app was one of the iOS 15 features Apple promised when it introduced the programme last year. There were signs in the code of the iOS 15.4 beta that the functionality might be live soon.

Advertisements

In fact, on March 23, Apple announced that Arizona had become the first state to provide digital ID functionality for the Wallet app. The states of Colorado, Hawaii, Mississippi, and Ohio, as well as the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico, are all on their way there. Additionally, Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Utah will all get assistance from Apple, the company has said.

On the main page of the Wallet app, you may simply hit the plus symbol to add your driver’s licence or state ID card. That is, if your state allows the feature.)

An SOS message is sent out in the event of an emergency.

You’ll notice right away if the iOS 15.4 beta is any indicator that the new software prompts you to examine your Emergency SOS settings. When you push down on one of the iPhone’s volume buttons and the side button simultaneously, you’ll be able to dial emergency contacts.

It is possible to modify your existing contact list by tapping on the Emergency SOS prompt. The Emergency SOS function may be activated in a variety of ways.

Other iOS 15.4 updates and additions are also available.

Even if they’re tinkerings, the other changes in iOS 15.4 are worth noting.

  • There are 39 separate security issues fixed in iOS 15.4’s security update.
  • New options for displaying your programme queue in the TV app’s Up Next section include still frames and posters. Adjusting this setting is done in the TV app’s Settings section.
  • Within Apple Music, albums and tracks now have a SharePlay option on the Share sheet.
  • If you have Apple’s credit card, a new widget lets you check your balance, spending power, and spending history.
  • When using Shortcuts, you may perform your own unique automations in the background without receiving alerts.
  • In the App Store, you can now manage notifications for New Features & Updates, Recommendations & Offers, and other types of alerts.
  • It’s possible to arrange podcasts by unplayed and downloaded episodes in Podcasts’ new filter options.

Complaints about battery drain in iOS 15.4

Some iOS 15.4 users have reported power depletion on their iPhones after upgrading. Apple, in response to user concerns about battery depletion on iOS 15.4, has said that it is “common for your applications and features to need to adapt up to 48 hours following an upgrade.” My iPhone 11 Pro has been on iOS 15.4 since the beta stage, and it hasn’t seen any power drain.

When it comes to battery life, we wouldn’t be too worried if you saw a decrease in your iPhone’s battery life after updating to iOS 15.4. If this occurs, please contact Apple’s support team.

In any case, a new version of iOS, version 15.4.1, is now available, with the promise of addressing iPhone battery depletion concerns as one of the patch’s primary goals.
