With iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, you may copy or share text that shows in your camera’s viewfinder Live Text, a picture or screenshot you’ve taken, or on Safari, thanks to Apple’s Live Text functionality. Sometimes, though, the text auto-detection might become a distraction, and you might wish to turn it off, either totally or only for the Camera app. It’s explained in detail in this article.
iPhone and iPad: How to Turn Off Live Text
- Open the Settings application.
- To access General, use the General button.
- Take advantage of the language and region.
- To disable Live Text, turn off the switch next to it.

By doing this, the text recognition icon and the Live Text contextual menu will no longer appear when interacting with photos.
Disabling Live Text on the camera app.
You may disable Live Text in the Camera app by following these instructions if you like using it but don’t want it to interfere with your picture.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
- Tap Camera at the bottom of the list.
- Go to View > Switches > Hide Detected Text and turn it off. If you’ve previously deactivated Live Text system-wide, you won’t see this option.)
