In the United States, Chick-fil-A (pronounced “fillet”) is the biggest fast-food chain specialising in chicken sandwiches, and the largest in terms of overall sales volume. College Park, Georgia, is the company’s headquarters. More than 2,804 of the company’s restaurants are spread over 47 states and the District of Columbia, predominantly in the United States.

History
S. Truett Cathy, the chain’s previous chairman and CEO, built the Dwarf Grill (now the Dwarf House) in 1946, which served as the chain’s genesis. Many of the restaurant’s regular customers came from the now-demolished Ford Motor Company Atlanta Assembly Plant in Hapeville, Georgia, an Atlanta suburb. [Required citation]
On September 15, 1961 Cathy discovered a machine that could cook a chicken sandwich in the same amount of time as a hamburger in the fast food industry. Having made this finding, he went ahead and registered Chick-fil-A, Inc as a corporation. The Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich is the focus of the company’s copyrighted tagline, “We Didn’t Invent the Chicken, Just the Chicken Sandwich.” Cathy’s repeated assertion that she developed the chicken sandwich, which is cited in the tagline, is incorrect, according to many journalists.
Waffle House and the new Houston Astrodome concession stalls sold the sandwich under licence from 1964 to 1967. It wasn’t until 1967, when the first Chick-Fil-A store debuted in a suburban Atlanta mall’s food court, that the sandwich was removed from other restaurants’ menus.
A New Year’s Eve college football bowl game in Atlanta has been sponsored by the Atlanta-based corporation since 1997. College sports sponsor Chick-fil-A is also a major supporter of the SEC and the ACC.
For a while, the company grew by adding additional stores in the food courts of suburban malls. From its initial standalone site on North Druid Hills Road in Atlanta in 1986, the firm started focusing more on this stand-alone sort of unit than on food court types. In spite of the company’s expansion, the majority of new restaurants are situated in the southern suburbs.
Chick-Fil-mascot A’s was the chicken until the “Eat mor Chikin” cows made their appearance in 1995. Mascot Doodles goes by this name.
Chick-fil-A was the first fast-food chain to totally eliminate trans fats in 2008.
As of October 2015, the Manhattan location was the country’s biggest freestanding Chick-fil-A at 5,000 square feet (460 square metres).

During the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport power outage on December 17, 2017, Chick-fil-A opened on a Sunday to prepare meals for stranded passengers. On January 13, 2019, a Mobile, Alabama Chick-fil-A opened on a Sunday to honour the birthday wish of a 14-year-old boy with cerebral palsy and autism.
