We know when the third season of Ted Lasso may be released.
You’d be wise to BELIEVE There has been some progress on the third season of Ted Lasso. Apple teased the upcoming season and AFC Richmond’s new uniforms on Twitter with the announcement.
But what more do we know about the much awaited comeback of Ted Lasso, who is expected to play for AFC Richmond in the 2022-23 season?
Richmond’s assistant coach abandoned the team almost immediately after he was promoted, as you may remember from the Emmy-winning Apple TV+ comedy’s Season 2 finale. Nate left and accepted the position as head coach of Rupert’s recently bought West Ham United after lashing out at Ted for his criticisms of him.
With enormous plans for a comeback, perhaps later this year, the Emmy-winning sitcom will be back.
That being said, spoilers for Ted Lasso season 2 may be found below, but you’ve already seen the last episode. Yes, I went through a lot of emotions throughout the match. Now that we know more about what will happen in Season 3, let’s get started.
Since Ted Lasso season 3 is not expected to premiere for some time, we’ve compiled a list of the finest series to keep you entertained while you wait.
Season 3 of Ted Lasso is said to be coming soon
Apple hasn’t made anything public yet, but that hasn’t prevented rumours from circulating around the internet. Despite the fact that we don’t know who The Hollywood Reporter’s source is (and we doubt they would, as we don’t have a Lasso/Crimm-level relationship with them), the publication said that Apple plans to premiere Ted Lasso season 3 in the summer of 2022.
In retrospect, it seems that the short gap between seasons 2 and 3 (less than a year!) may be ascribed to careful scheduling. Before the second season of Ted Lasso had even aired, Apple announced that the third season will premiere in October 2020.
Team Lasso was able to begin planning and scripting the upcoming season early because of the head start they received. Nonetheless, it’s fair to assume that showrunner Bill Lawrence and his crew have a strategy in place for AFC Richmond’s season 1 relegation and season 2 promotion.
Brendan Hunt (as Coach Beard) recently told TVLine that Season 3 of the Emmy-winning Apple TV+ comedy will air later than Seasons 1 and 2 because to a “football hiccup” in production.
According to him, “We’re certainly beginning later this year than Season 2,” he said on February 7. As a result, I’d be shocked if our delivery dates coincided.” While I can’t say for sure since it’s beyond my pay grade, I do have a general idea of the boundaries to this dimension we call time, and it seems fairly improbable that we’ll [premiere] this early in the year.”
Preliminary cast rumours for the third season of Ted Lasso
In a statement announcing the third season of Ted Lasso, Apple solely highlighted the show’s core actors. In addition to Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt as Coach Ted Lasso and Coach Beard, Brett Goldstein as the gruff Roy Kent, Hannah Waddingham, Keeley Jones, Rebecca Welton, and Jeremy Swift as Higgins, we know what we can anticipate from the main cast of Ted Lasso. Including Nick Mohammed, who portrays Nathan “Nate” Shelley in the series.
Nevertheless, we fully anticipate the return of almost everyone else, beginning with West Ham United’s new owner Rupert Mannion, as well (Anthony Head).
Sam Obisanya, who remained on the squad, is the good news of season 2’s conclusion. It was a great season for Toheeb Jimoh and we hope to see more of him in season 3 as well.
Other cast members who may return include:
- Phil Dunster as Jamie Tartt, the star player who is proving unselfish
- Kola Bokinni as Isaac McAdoo, the captain of AFC Richmond
- Billy Harris as Colin Hughes, who is still working on his self confidence
- Cristo Fernández as Dani Rojas, who remembered that football is life
- Moe Jeudy-Lamour as Thierry Zoreaux, AFC Richmond’s goalkeeper
- Charlie Hiscock as Will (the kitman)
- Annette Badland as Mae, who works at the The Prince’s Head pub
- Adam Colborne as Baz, a regular at the The Prince’s Head
- Bronson Webb as Jeremy, a regular at the The Prince’s Head
- Kevin Garry as Paul, a regular at the The Prince’s Head
Bill Lawrence, the show’s creator, has also announced that Sarah Niles will return as Dr. Sharon Fieldstone and James Lance will reprise his role as Trent Crimm (now simply, independent).
Even while we know that Ellie Taylor, Phoebe Walsh, and Elodie Blomfield will all be back, none of them seem to be as certain. Despite this, we may expect to see more of them in the future.
Kieran O’Brien reprising his role as Jamie Tartt’s violent father would be a huge surprise, however. Sam Richardson might return as Edwin Akufo, the man who tried to recruit Sam away from Richmond, but we don’t know how long his plan for Raja Casablanca will take.
The third season of Ted Lasso is currently being filmed
Season 3 of Ted Lasso premiered on Apple TV Plus on March 7th.
Season 3’s shooting and post-production times will be comparable to those of season 2’s, at about five months each. According to this timeline, the third season of Ted Lasso would premiere in December 2022.
The third season of Ted Lasso
Consequently, AFC Richmond is now a Premier League club without a championship trophy to its credit, as the announcers at Nelson Row remarked Season 3 seems to be about making a shift in that direction. Also, as showrunner Bill Lawrence indicated, Ted Lasso’s narrative will come to a close in Season 3. However, spinoffs are feasible (Roy Kent and Rebecca Welton seem like prime candidates to build a show around, if you ask us).
But first, let’s take a look back at how Ted Lasso season 2 concluded. After Trent Crimm’s article in The Independent made Ted’s battle with anxiety public, he was the first to speak out about it. Coach Beard and Jane are re-united, at least that’s what he believes. Having his office back, Higgins is ecstatic, while Rebecca is overcome with emotion by Sam’s decision to remain. We don’t know whether Sam and Rebecca (hello, Cheers fans!) will ever get back together again.
“I love you” is one of the most often used phrases in Roy and Keeley’s relationship right now, but he doesn’t reciprocate. Keeley is moving out of Richmond and starting a new career, so how will their relationship change?
For Ted Lasso, the major news is that Rebecca’s ex-husband and previous owner of AFC Richmond, Rupert Mannion now owns West Ham United and has recruited Nathan “Nate” Shelley as a coach. Emperor Palpatine’s (Rupert) and Darth Vader’s (Darth) connection is aesthetically similar (Nate). It has been a narrative of vanity and rage that has caused Nate to betray Ted in season 2.
Is Ted Lasso going to attempt to make amends with Nate? He left in season 1, but he returned in season 2 and is now a fan favourite because of it. Aside from when he revealed to Keeley how much he still loved for her, everything was fine.
Previously, Hunt hinted that the episode might include a time shift. On TVLine he said: “We’ve never started a season from the beginning, so maybe that’s something we want to do. In addition, because to the way the English Premier League calendar works, we will face West Ham twice — once at home and once away.”
Upgrades are being made to the Richmond kits
Apple TV+ debuted AFC Richmond’s new uniforms to commemorate the commencement of manufacturing.
New and updated jerseys from Nike say, “Never Stop Believing,” accompanied with a photo of the new and better jerseys. AFC Richmond’s official Twitter account replied, “So delighted to have Nike as our new official uniform provider.”
Our sister publication Sportico had earlier claimed that Apple had struck a six-figure licence arrangement from the Premier League that would enable Ted Lasso to use Premier League video and display club insignia in future episodes.
