Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Flip may be renamed because of Russia’s conflict with Ukraine.
It is possible that Samsung’s foldable phone series may be renamed this year. And it might be because of current events.
Some European nations are already selling Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 without the “Z” in their names, according to leaker Ishan Agarwal, who posted the information on Twitter. Galaxy Fold 3 and Galaxy Flip 3 are no longer classified as foldables. Countries like Estonia and Latvia have seen the shift, according to XDA Developers.
Suggestions are circulating that Eastern European nations are renaming their devices to avoid a possible link to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but this is not an official explanation from Samsung. On its US website, the Z remains in place for both the Fold and Flip.
The letter Z has been embraced as a sign of support for the Ukrainian invasion by Russian politicians and nationalists since it was first employed by Russian soldiers as a military marking. A corporation like Samsung could wish to steer clear of anything that might be seen as an invasion, given the widespread disapproval of Russia’s military action.
Samsung’s apparent reluctance to stick with the Galaxy Z moniker raises the possibility of a new brand for the company’s next foldable devices. Rumors of a late summer release for both the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 suggest that Samsung might simply omit the Z suffix from the name.
When it comes down to it, however, “Fold” and “Flip” are what really matter in the titles of the foldable phones. Unlike a traditional flip phone, the Galaxy Fold can be opened like a book to show an expanded screen within. In reality, the “Z” component of the name is unnecessary and generates a name that doesn’t truly slide off the tongue.
However, the name of Samsung’s future foldables is unlikely to make the cut of the most intriguing alterations that Samsung is working on right now. Galaxy Z Fold 4 or Galaxy Fold 4 is expected to include a built-in pen, similar to the S Pen Samsung introduced on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. A stylus-friendly design for the Fold 4’s screen is also possible, while Samsung is working to enhance the camera that debuted on the phone last year.
At this moment, we don’t know much about the Galaxy Z Flip 4, although we’d anticipate a new chipset and ideally an increase in battery life over the Flip 3. In addition to the Galaxy Fold’s under-display camera, rumour has it that Samsung is working on a similar device.
When Samsung usually hosts its Unpacked event to reveal new gadgets for the next season in August, both phones are likely to come. No one knows whether the foldables will be accompanied by the already contentious Z.
