Meta is preventing access to Russian official media.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has prompted Meta to take action of its own.
Official Russian state media outlets will no longer be able to display adverts or monetize in any manner on social media sites operated by the corporation. Russia’s official media will be cut off from the media behemoth as a result of the ban.
Meta’s chief of security policy, Nathaniel Gleicher, said that they would “also continue to apply labels to further Russian state media” over the weekend.
“We’re also labelling more Russian state media as we go along. A phase-in period that will go over the weekend has already started for these updates.”
“We are now barring Russian state media from running advertising or monetizing on our platform anywhere in the globe,” he said. “
Meta has refused to cease fact-checking articles from Russian official media on its social media platforms after Russia asked it stop doing so the other day. Russia is now banning the usage of Meta’s service for its residents, according to Nick Clegg, Meta’s VP of Global Affairs.
The Russian government instructed us to cease fact-checking and labelling anything uploaded on Facebook by four Russian state-owned media groups only a few days ago. We turned down the offer. Our services will be limited as a consequence of this decision.
On February 24, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Until now, Ukrainian soldiers have resisted a Russian assault on the capital city of Kyiv. A number of nations have imposed further sanctions against Russia and committed extra help to Ukraine.
