WHAT IS SHAREPLAY IN IPHONE AND IPAD
SharePlay is a new FaceTime feature available on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. During a FaceTime call, you can share your device’s screen with others. SharePlay allows everyone to watch movies and listen to music at the same time.
Everyone has their own control on their screen to pause or skip to their liking. On the surface, it appears to be similar to Spotify Group Sessions, but the beauty of SharePlay is that it works with all Apple media apps as well as third-party services.
Apple has released Group Activities APIs, which allow developers to include SharePlay support in their apps. Some major media companies, including Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, Twitch, TikTok, and others, have already announced plans to integrate the SharePlay function into their apps.
As for this post, we will use Apple Music and Apple TV as an example.
ENABLE SHAREPLAY ON IPHONE
There is a SharePlay toggle in the iPhone Settings app that you need to enable to use the function. Here’s how to use it.
Step 1: Open the Settings app on iPhone.
Step 2: Move down to the FaceTime menu.
Step 3: Open FaceTime and tap on SharePlay.
Step 4: Enable SharePlay toggle from the following menu and now you are ready to share music and watch TV shows together over a FaceTime call.
USE SHAREPLAY TO LISTEN TO MUSIC ON FACETIME
Ensure all the participants are on the latest iOS/iPadOS/macOS version to take advantage of SharePlay functionality. Now follow the steps below.

Step 3: Once everyone has joined the group video call, swipe up and go back to the home screen.
Step 4: Open one of the supported apps. We will open Apple Music here.
As shown in the screenshot above, you will be able to select which content to use with SharePlay. When you start playing a song, you’ll notice the SharePlay icon appear in the FaceTime pop-up menu.
Everyone on the call hears the music at the same time. Users must have an active subscription to the streaming service. If not, the app will prompt you to purchase a subscription, make a transaction, or participate in a free trial, if one is available.
Everyone on the call who has access to the playback controls can press Play, Pause, Rewind, Fast Forward, or move to the next track.
USE SHAREPLAY TO WATCH VIDEOS TOGETHER

Everyone who has an active Apple TV subscription will see the video begin to play. People who do not have access are asked to get access if it is available (through a subscription, a transaction, or a free trial).
Everyone on the FaceTime call can use the playback buttons, as well as the closed captioning and volume controls.
Once you hit the End button, you have an option to End SharePlay for you or everyone.

SharePlay is currently limited to a few apps. Major app developers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, and Spotify aren’t on the list of supported apps. Despite the fact that Apple has made FaceTime available to Android and Windows users, the SharePlay function will not work for users who join a FaceTime call using a non-Apple platform.
