How to turn down Background Noise in FaceTime on Mac

Several new features in macOS Monterey attempt to make Apple’s FaceTime video calling platform a viable alternative to competing video conferencing applications.

New audio capabilities include a Voice Isolation option for your microphone that allows you to isolate yourself from any surrounding noise. The function employs machine learning to cut out ambient noise and prioritise your speech so that it comes through crystal clear.

It can be enabled on Macs running macOS Monterey and later.

  • Activate the FaceTime app and begin a video or voice conversation.
  • You may access the Control Center by clicking the Control Center symbol on the right-hand side of the menu bar after you’ve connected to the call.
  • To switch to microphone mode, click the Mic Mode button.
  • Voice Isolation may be selected.

Repeat the preceding procedures and choose one of the several choices in the final menu to deactivate Voice Isolation and utilise Standard or Wide Spectrum mode (which increases background sounds around you).
