Here’s how to delete an Instagram account for whatever reason.
It can be difficult to delete a social media account because most businesses understandably want to avoid people leaving their service. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to delete an Instagram account — we’ll show you how.
But, before you go any further, make certain that you truly want to leave. Deleting your Instagram account will result in the permanent loss of all your photos, likes, and comments, so make sure you’ve saved everything you might want access to in the future.
Another, less permanent option is to temporarily disable your account from your profile and then reactivate it later, but if you want your account completely removed, follow the steps below.
How to delete an Instagram account
1. Using a web browser, go to the Instagram account deletion page, and log into your account. You cannot delete your account from within the Instagram mobile app.
2. Instagram will ask you for a reason why you are deleting your account — select one of the options in the drop-down menu.
3. Once you’ve chosen one of the options, Instagram will make some suggestions to ensure you’re certain you want to delete your account. If you’re certain, enter your password again in the box that appears and click the ‘Delete’ button.
4. Click the pop-up to confirm you want to delete your account, if one appears.
5. You have approximately one month between clicking the ‘delete’ button and your account actually disappearing; this means that if you change your mind, you can log in again and prevent your account from being deleted. To find out when your account will be deleted, look at the date Instagram lists.
If you want to use your old username on a new account after your account has been completely deleted, you can do so. But keep in mind that Instagram says it may keep some of your data after you delete your account for a variety of reasons. More information can be found in Instagram’s data policy.
