On Sunday, June 26, the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles hosted the 2022 BET Awards. Before the performance, described as “culture’s biggest night,” celebrities flaunted their looks, ranging from laid-back to cutting-edge and beyond.
Jack Harlow, who collaborated with Lil Nas X on “Industry Baby,” was one of many who stood out by donning a black T-shirt with the rapper’s face on it. The rapper of “Panini” did not win any awards, despite Harlow being nominated for best male hip-hop artist. Lil Nas X has been criticizing the BET Awards since the nominations were announced because of the alleged snub. In since-deleted posts, he expressed these ideas on Twitter, stating, I just feel like black gay people have to work to be recognized in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible.” Since then, he has also released a brand-new song called “Late to Da Party” with YoungBoy Never Broke Again that once more criticizes the BET Awards. (The BETs previously reacted to express their appreciation for the rapper’s contributions, stating that during earlier ceremonies, “we proudly featured his incredible ability and ingenuity on the show.”)
Lizzo, Billy Porter, Summer Walker, and Chloe Bailey were among the other celebrities who flaunted their fashion sense on the BET Awards red carpet. Lizzo donned a lovely black gown with ruffled sleeves and a skirt.
Taraji P. Henson highlighted the awards event this year for the second year in a row. The recipient of the lifetime achievement award for the year is Sean “Diddy” Combs, who will perform with a star-studded lineup. With six nominations, Doja Cat is this year’s top nominee. Following with four each are Drake and Ari Lennox. As winners are declared, keep up with our winners list, which will be updated immediately.
