Windows 11’s Android app preview is rolling out to all users this month
This is it: Windows 11 customers in the US are finally getting a taste of what native Android app support in Windows will look like due to a major upgrade that will be sent out through Windows Update today (February 15).
It’s a huge step forward in Microsoft’s quest to make Android applications operate natively in Windows 11 as promised. It was an important aspect of Microsoft’s Windows marketing strategy, but it was missing from the software when it was released.
Until recently, Windows Insiders have had access to a preview of Android applications running natively in Windows 11, but this is the first time that all Windows 11 users will have access. This may be done by downloading and installing a preview version of the Amazon Appstore on your Windows device.
The app shop inside the app store is exactly what it sounds like
This is how Amazon, Epic Games, and others will be able to access Microsoft’s app store. On Windows 11, Microsoft allows third-party developers to host their own app shops within the Microsoft Store. As a result of this major change, Windows 11 customers in the United States will have to wait until this week to check out the Amazon Appstore for Windows 11, which should be accessible when you download and install the most recent update to Windows 11.
This month’s February update includes more than just a public test of Android on Windows 11. As part of the UI refresh, Microsoft is bringing the weather widget back to your taskbar, allowing you to see the current date across multiple displays, and adding a mute button to your taskbar for Teams conversations. Be on the lookout for new versions of Media Player and Notepad.
