Even though Doctor Strange 2 was a letdown, it appears like the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is back on track with the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, which has a fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 74%.

If you can’t wait for official reviews to come out, you can get a taste of what critics are saying by following them on Twitter after they’ve seen early screenings.

It’s true that the lasting impression you get from a movie has a half-life and diminishes with time. However, the critical reception has been so positive that it’s difficult to imagine the movie falling short of Thor: Ragnarok’s Rotten Tomatoes score of 93 percent fresh (opens in new tab).

Thor: Love and Thunder — what are the critics saying?

Collider’s Therese Lacson said, “Thor: Love and Thunder is just AMAZING” (opens in new tab). Ragnarok: The Battle of the Five Armies is the best Marvel movie to date, according to critics.

Is this the greatest Marvel film ever made? Lacson isn’t the only one who thinks that way. Love and Thunder may be Drew Taylor of The Playlist’s favorite Marvel movie, and it’s also one of the greatest (opens in new tab).

To put it mildly, it appears to be the best Thor film ever. ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis chimes in with, “My favorite Thor movie out of the four” (opens in new tab). This seems like the best of Phases 1 and 4 of MCU all in one go. “I was blown away by it.”

As Inverse’s Jacob Kleinman points out, “It can’t quite match the visual or comedic bombast of Ragnarok,” but it’s hard to find any significant disagreeing voices at this time.

However, despite Andrew Salanzar and Laura Sirikul (both of whom open in new windows) pointing out that some of the comedy doesn’t quite land, the overall impression is that of a film that manages to masterfully blend humor with emotion. Director Taika Waititi, on the other hand, has the talent to do so.

For The Mary Sue’s Rachel Leishman, “Thor: Love and Thunder is a great blend of Taika at his best with comedy and a punch to the belly all at once” (opens in new tab). Kirsten Acuna of Insider expressed it like way: “I laughed. My eyes welled up with tears. Finally, “in that order,” my laughter turned to tears.”

It’s a good idea to stick around for the credits, since, according to Clayton Davis of Variety, the film is “EPIC.”

Thor: Love and Thunder, which was originally scheduled for release in 2021 but was postponed owing to the pandemic, will now be released on July 8th, 2022. According to the rumors, the wait will be worth it.
