Finally, the long-awaited Mac feature is nearing completion. universal control
Apple will unveil macOS Monterey, which includes Universal Control, during its Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2021. In the autumn, Mac users were able to get the latter. However, Universal Control, which Apple promises would be ready “this spring,” has yet to arrive. Here’s what we know so far regarding the functionality and when we may expect it.
Universal Control – What Is It?
Using a single keyboard, mouse, and trackpad for both your Mac and iPad will be available when Universal Control is deployed. You can transfer “your cursor from your Mac to your iPad, write on your Mac and see the words show up on your iPad, or even drag and drop stuff from one Mac to another” by doing so.

Universal Control requires what?
In order to utilise Universal Control (UC), your iPad and best Mac must be running the newest supported versions of iPadOS and macOS Monterey (whatever is available at the time of UC’s release). In the spring of 2022, Apple says they will be accessible to the public. Universal Control may be used with no further user configuration if the relevant software is installed. Even better, it can be used with a variety of devices and configurations.
Two-factor authentication is required for both devices to be linked to the same Apple ID. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Handoff must be enabled on the compatible devices in order to utilise Universal Control wirelessly, as must they be within 10 metres (30 feet) of one another. When using a wireless network, iPad and Mac should not be connected to each other. To connect through USB, you must put your faith in your Mac.
Universal Control is compatible with both Intel-based Macs and Apple’s own hardware.
The following devices are supported:
It includes MacBook Pro (2016 and after) as well as iMac, MacBook Air, and iPad Pro; iMac Pro, Mac mini (2018 and later), and Mac Pro (2019); and iPad Air and iPad (3rd generation and later).
iPad and iPad mini (6th generation and later) (5th generation and later).
Where Universal Control is ineffective.
There are a variety of situations when Universal Control isn’t an option.
Among them are:
- iPad to iPad: Because Universal Control needs a Mac, you can’t use it on several iPads at the same time.
- Apple has not yet made Universal Control available for the iPhone. It’s not clear whether this will alter in the future.
- If your buddy has a Windows laptop or an Android tablet, Universal Control won’t operate on their device.
- Apple Pencil: Using Universal Control, you are unable to transfer your Apple Pencil to your Mac.
