In 2024, DeLorean plans to introduce the Alpha V, an electric vehicle.

The DeLorean electric car has finally been presented after a lot of hype. Officially called as DeLorean Alpha V, it looks nothing like the original DMC-12. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, given the design’s excruciating nature, even in the 1980s.

There are enough similarities, though, to lead you to conclude that this is really a DeLorean “I’m a fan of the gull-wing doors and the louvred rear window’s shape and design. The DeLorean Alpha V, on the other hand, is a completely contemporary coupé.

What are the expected specifications of the Alpha V? In terms of acceleration and top speed, the car clocks in at 0-60 in just 2.99 seconds and reaches a top speed of 155 mph. Even though the Alpha V isn’t as fast as a Tesla, it’s still a fast automobile. At 88 miles per hour, it takes you just 4.35 seconds to reach that speed.

The EPA estimates that a 100 kWH battery can go 300 miles on a single charge. A four-seat layout will also be available in the Alpha V, but there appears to be little legroom back there. With the addition of two distinct monitors, the driver will also be able to use both displays simultaneously.

The car’s drawback is that it will only be available in a limited number of instances. There will be an associated NFT for the first 88 cars, and they won’t be street legal, according to AutoCar(opens in new tab). Even if it’s still limited, the rest of the run will be subjected to all of the appropriate road-testing procedures.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much more information available at this time concerning the vehicle. Only a prototype will be shown at the Pebble Beach Concours of Elegance in August, as DeLorean has been very secretive about the details. We don’t know how much the DeLorean Alpha V will cost when it goes into production in 2024.

Despite this, DeLorean has bigger plans. CEO Joost de Vries of the DeLorean Motor Company revealed to AutoCar that the company plans to produce additional automobiles in the future.

De Vries has confirmed that a V8-powered sports-coupé is next on the horizon for the company. Those two vehicles will be followed by a battery-powered saloon and a hydrogen-powered sports utility vehicle, respectively.

This is, to my mind, a weird collection of endeavours. Automakers are phasing out the internal combustion engine, and several European governments plan to restrict the sale of new cars by 2030 unless they meet stringent emissions standards.

Hydrogen, on the other hand, has yet to take off in any significant way. According to De Vries, the SUV will be launched “quite fast after we launch our halo car,” and it will be needed for volume.

This could be a problem because to the lack of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure. As of September 2013, 48 of them were operational in the United States, all of which were situated in California. It’s clear that DeLorean doesn’t believe that batteries are the ultimate goal.”
