Even though both the Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model X offer a generous amount of interior room, how can you know which one is suitable for you?
Electric SUV sales are booming right now, and Tesla has two different models to choose from. When it comes to full-size SUVs, the Model X is an excellent choice, while the Model Y is an excellent choice for those seeking a more compact (and cheaper) vehicle.
The Model Y is Tesla’s newest vehicle, while the Model X has been around for a few more years. Both automobiles are good choices for anyone who want to buy an SUV because they offer many of the same features and experiences. There is no clear winner when comparing the Tesla Model X and the Tesla Model Y. Take a look at both of these enormous electric vehicles and see how they stack up.
Tesla Model X vs. Tesla Model Y: Overview
One of Tesla’s earliest vehicles, the Model X debuted in 2012 as the follow-up to the Model S. In spite of this, Tesla’s first vehicles didn’t appear on the road until the following year.
The Tesla Model X has become one of the automaker’s greatest success stories, despite the car’s Falcon Wing back doors initially being a difficulty.
To some extent, the Tesla Model Y has robbed the Model X of some of its luster. If you’re looking for something a little smaller but yet have the same level of luxury and performance, this is the right choice.
The Tesla Model Y debuted in 2020, which means it’s a year younger than the Model X, but it also has a more sophisticated design and feel. However, it appears to be more in tune with the new Model 3 sedan.

Tesla Model X vs. Tesla Model Y: Price
Orders for the Tesla Model X Long Range can be placed for as little as $120,990. Despite this, the Plaid Model X presently has a starting price of $138,990. However, seven seats and an all-wheel-drive drivetrain make up for this.
Tesla’s Model Y is still a lot less expensive than most other vehicles, even with recent price increases. Although the Long Range model costs $65,990, and the Performance option costs $69,990, you’ll have to shell out at least that much to get one.
Both of these vehicles have a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. As with every Tesla model, you have the option to increase the final cost of your order by selecting from a variety of additional options.
However, there are now long waits for both types of service. There will be no standard model of the Tesla Model X until January or August of 2023. Between August and October will be the expected arrival date for the Plaid.

Tesla Model X vs. Tesla Model Y: Design and interior
Tesla updates its lineup on a regular basis, and the Tesla Model Y, despite its relative youth, recently received a little facelift. Auto-dimming mirrors, for example, can be found on later vehicles, such as Tesla’s Model 3.
The silver flourishes on the steering wheel, for example, are hardly perceptible, whereas the laminated window glass is more evident. When it comes to data-intensive driver aids like Tesla’s Autopilot and Autopilot Autopilot, there’s a USB connector and a Tesla-branded storage device in the glovebox.
If you’re looking for a true SUV with plenty of cargo room, the Tesla Model X may be your best bet. In reality, you may order it to seat up to seven people if you specify that seating arrangement when placing your purchase.
The Model Y’s interior isn’t as spacious, but it still has enough for five people in the Performance variant. For those who prefer a seven-seater, the design can be ordered for the Long Range variant of the car.

To keep you entertained when you’re stuck in traffic, the Model X’s infotainment screen will display a selection of triple-A games.
Tesla Model X vs. Tesla Model Y: Power and performance
Regardless of the Tesla model you choose, you can expect excellent performance from both. If you need more power, you can opt for the Tesla Model X’s beefier tri-motor Plaid drivetrain, which has three motors instead of two.
Compared to its size, the SUV packs quite a punch. Topping out at 155 mph, the Long Range model’s 670 hp allows it to sprint from zero to sixty miles per hour in as little as 3.8 seconds. It can also tow 5,000 pounds, which makes it an excellent choice for anyone who likes to spend time in the great outdoors.
Nevertheless, the Tesla Model X Plaid version is the genuine deal, with a peak power of 1,020hp that produces a 0-60mph time of under 2.5 seconds and a maximum speed of 163mph. Even though the range is reduced by 20 miles, the 5,000-pound towing capability remains.
However, the Tesla Model Y is no less impressive, with small changes between the Long Range AWD and Performance packages.
The Performance vehicle should have a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph, with a range of 303 miles. In terms of performance, the Long Range AWD car has a slightly lower 0-60mph time of 4.8 seconds, but it still has a top speed of 135mph and an enhanced range of 318 miles.
Tesla Model X vs. Tesla Model Y: Battery and range
The Tesla Model X and the Tesla Model Y both have amazing ranges, as do all of Tesla’s vehicles. The Long Range and Plaid editions of the Model X are available. Currently, the former car has a range of up to 348 miles, while the latter can deliver up to 333 miles.
The Tesla Model Y, on the other hand, comes in two flavors right now: Performance and Long Range AWD. Both cars include a “long-range” battery, with the Performance model claiming 303 miles of range. Although calculations are based on EPA estimates for the U.S. market, the Long Range AWD model boasts 330 miles of driving range.
Tesla Model X vs. Tesla Model Y: Other features
Tesla Model Y and Model X share many similarities, especially when you consider how long they’ve been on the market and how new they are. There are also features like heated seats, a heated steering wheel, wiper blade defrosters and heaters for the washer nozzles for those who live in cold climates.
Tesla has nicknamed the ‘bioweapon defense mode’ for its HEPA air filtering technology, which is standard equipment on both cars. For the first time, this feature will be available on all Tesla vehicles, not only the Model X and Model S.
It’s possible that features that are currently exclusively available in the Model X will soon be available in the Model Y. That goes for the other way around, too.
Tesla Model X vs. Tesla Model Y: Outlook
In spite of the fact that it’s been around for quite some time, the Tesla Model X nevertheless looks and feels fresh. With its capacity to fit three rows of seats into a well-appointed SUV, it has remained ahead of the game in many ways. It has also been popular with many buyers.
Model Y has followed suit, putting Tesla in an excellent position to attract new electric vehicle buyers. Since not everyone wants a huge SUV these days, this is a good compromise. However, it appears that many electric car enthusiasts are more interested in the Model Y than the Model X, which still appears to be selling well for Tesla.
