Tacos and Mission burritos are the specialties of Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., a fast-casual restaurant company based in the United States with locations throughout the globe. Customers may see their food being prepared in front of them as they place their orders. [13][14] The Nahuatl word for a smoked and dried jalapeo chilli pepper, chipotle, is the inspiration for the name of this dish. In the New York Stock Exchange, CMG stands for the company’s ticker symbol.
In the early days of fast-casual dining, Chipotle was one of the pioneers.
Qdoba Mexican Grill, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Rubio’s Coastal Grill, and Baja Fresh are some of the fast-casual Mexican restaurant competitors. Steve Ells founded Chipotle on July 13, 1993, when McDonald’s Corporation became a significant investor. At the time, Chipotle had 16 stores (all in Colorado). Over 500 Chipotle establishments were open by the time McDonald’s completely divested itself from Chipotle in 2006. Over 2,000 sites, Chipotle earned US$475.6 million in net profits in 2015 and has a workforce of over 45,000 people.
