The first EV from Cadillac sold out in 19 minutes when it went on sale.
The second round of pre-orders for the Cadillac Lyriq EV will begin on May 19, according to Cadillac. The news comes after a successful pre-order period that saw all of the limited edition Debut Edition devices sold out in September of 2012.
Cadillac’s first electric car sold out in only 19 minutes during that reserve period, indicating that there is a sizable demand for such an EV.
The new EV from Cadillac will be available for pre-order in May, but it isn’t known how many vehicles will be made available for purchase.
The Lyriq has received “huge” attention from the press, according to Rory Harvey, vice president of worldwide Cadillac. About 230,000 people have already shown an interest in the new Lyriq, but the company hasn’t said how many reservations have been made yet. [*] As of right now, we don’t know how many of those handraisers will turn into sales.
If you purchase now, you’ll have your rear-wheel-drive vehicle in May, with manufacturing starting as early as March 21. Some time in early 2023 will be required for anybody who wants to acquire a more aggressive all-wheel-drive performance model.
With a starting price of roughly $60,000, the basic Lyriq will have a range of “more than 300 miles” and 340 horsepower. The Lyric performance model’s details have been kept under wraps, and the Cadillac website only encourages visitors to sign up for updates.
Additional features include 19kW AC charge, 150kW DC quick charging, a sleek cabin, and General Motors’ Super Cruise self-driving tech.
At $59,900, the Cadillac Lyriq’s starting pricing was already competitive. That beginning price, though, is even more appealing given the recent price rises on Tesla’s whole product line. A lack of supply for some models from Tesla isn’t helping matters either.
If you’re interested in purchasing a Cadillac Lyriq, you have until May 19 to make up your mind.
