Details about the Cadillac Lyriq’s release date and price
Pre-orders for the Cadillac Lyriq sold out in a record-breaking 19 minutes, demonstrating the high level of interest in the brand’s first electric car.
Around March 21, production on those will begin, and deliveries are slated to begin somewhere in May. The performance-oriented all-wheel drive vehicle, on the other hand, will not be available until early 2023, at the earliest.
Pre-orders for the next batch of electric Cadillacs will begin on May 19, so mark your calendars now if you want to avoid missing out.
The starting price for the Cadillac Lyriq is $59,900. Almost $3,000 less expensive than the lowest Tesla Model Y and almost $55,000 less expensive than the cheapest Tesla Model X.
And that’s only the basic trim level, of course! Adding additional bells and whistles will almost certainly result in a price increase for Cadillac customers. This includes GM’s self-driving Super Cruise, which competes directly with Tesla’s Autopilot. It will also be an additional expense for purchasers, much like with Tesla. There is no way of knowing for sure how much time is left.
The range, battery, and performance of the Cadillac Lyriq
Although it falls short of Tesla Model Y’s longer-range Long Range model and both Tesla Model X models’ 300-mile ranges, Cadillac promises that the Lyriq’s 100 kWh battery will provide the same range as the Tesla Model Y Performance model.
GM’s revolutionary Ultium battery design, which is predicated on employing the least number of the maximum capacity battery cells, lies at the heart of that long-range power. Cadillac argues that by using this technique, they would be able to keep their prices low. And since the battery is modular, GM’s EV offers will undoubtedly be influenced by it.
“Cadillac was able to speed development and put more real-world miles on prototypes sooner than planned because to the modular and extremely adaptable Ultium Platform that underpins Lyriq,” stated Lyriq Chief Engineer Jamie Brewer in a news statement.
A major part of the Lyriq’s construction will be the Ultium battery system, which is expected to improve the vehicle’s stiffness and hence its overall performance. A low centre of gravity helps the Lyriq achieve a 50/50 weight distribution and smoother handling. All-wheel drive and a rear-wheel drive version will be available for the vehicle.
Both Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging are available for the Lyriq, allowing for home charging of up to 19 kW, as well as public DC fast charging of up to 150 kW. With such charging speeds, you should be able to recover 76 miles of range in only 10 minutes. Even while it’s not the quickest, it’ll help you extend the life of your battery in an emergency.
Lyriq owners may take use of a nationwide charging network, thanks to a joint venture between General Motors (GM) and EVgo (EVgo), which includes DC fast charging.
Design and interior of the Cadillac Lyriq
Lyriq is a lovely two-row SUV, but it doesn’t stand out among Cadillac’s lineup of huge, angular cars from the outside. When you get close to the Lyriq, you realise it’s not your average Cadillac.
LEDs illuminate the grille, lighting, and logo as you approach the Lyriq, indicating the car’s futuristic emphasis. To further separate it from the more conventional, square-shaped SUVs, the Lyriq has a sloped rear and enormous tail lamps that reach 2 feet into the C-pillar. The long and broad stance of the Lyriq, along with its 22-inch wheels, lends an air of authority to the vehicle.
Its dashboard is dominated by a large 33-inch display that extends from where you’d ordinarily find a driver’s instrument cluster all the way to the middle of the dashboard.. All of the controls are illuminated with LED lights on the piano black piano surface that covers the steering wheel, and knurled-edged knobs and scroll wheels give the wheel a premium look and feel.
The Lyriq’s “jewellery box” storage tray under the centre stack is one of its most unique and unusual internal features. It softly exposes itself and is lined with blue cloth. An iPhone was seen inside of the tray, which might indicate that this area can be used to charge your mobile devices wirelessly.
Cadillac Lyriq: Autonomous driving with Super Cruise and other unique features
Super Cruise automated driving technology is now available in Cadillac’s newest vehicles such the 2021 Escalade and will be available in the Lyriq as well. A “Level 2” system means that drivers must still pay attention to what is going on in front of them when using Super Cruise. However, under some circumstances, Super Cruise allows drivers to withdraw their hands off the wheel.
However, by the time the Lyriq goes on sale, Super Cruise may have advanced to Level 3 autonomy, which does not need constant eye contact while driving. Automated lane changes and remote parking are also possible with the Lyriq’s onboard electronics.
Incorporating augmented reality, the Lyriq’s heads-up display leverages data from the car’s assisted driving sensors. That implies that the heads-up display may show an arrow above the road from your point of view indicating the action the car is going to do before it begins on its course, for example.
The Lyriq’s 19-speaker audio system was co-engineered with AKG for the vehicle’s interior.
A glance at the future of the Cadillac Lyriq
Cadillac has a long way to go before the Lyriq is ready for production, so we may have to wait before learning specifics like performance numbers and other customization possibilities. With Mercedes EQS, Audi e-tron, and Volvo’s Polestar 2, Cadillac is facing growing competition in the premium EV SUV market from the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Volvo.
However, the Lyriq is a vehicle that we and most of the rest of the world will be keeping an eye on. What it symbolises is the future of the car industry in terms of interior technology, autonomous driving, and design. Watch this page for updates on the Lyriq, as we’ll keep it up to date as more information becomes available.
