Dropbox Mac programme developed for Apple silicon is now accessible to all beta testers, following limited testing of native compatibility.
Dropbox began testing native Apple silicon compatibility with a small group of beta testers earlier this month, pledging to expand testing to all beta users by the end of the month. Users who have enabled “Early releases” in their account choices will now have access to the native Apple silicon app.
Dropbox said on its support page that users with Apple hardware Macs should expect to obtain the updated version within 24-hours of enrolling in the early releases programme for their account. Here’s how to sign up for the programme:
- Go to dropbox.com and log into your account.
- In the top right-hand corner, click your profile picture and go into Settings.
- Under General, locate Preferences and toggle on “Early releases.”
Dropbox was chastised late last year for ambiguous wording about whether its client would adopt native Apple silicon compatibility, requiring consumers on Apple’s latest Macs to utilise a version of the service designed for Intel-based devices. Dropbox has been chastised by Mac users for being poorly optimised, resulting in high memory and battery utilisation.
