Apple M1 Ultra — everything we know till now

This is Apple’s most potent chip to yet that is M1 Ultra.

Apple’s newest custom silicon, the M1 Ultra, is the company’s most powerful M1 processor ever.

The M1 Ultra SoC was unveiled during Apple’s March 2022 event and is highly powerful (system-on-chip). One of the “secret” features of the M1 Max is that it uses die-to-die connector technology that allows two Max chips to work together to achieve all-new levels of power. We’re inclined to assume that the initial Apple M1 Ultra benchmarks are accurate.

An Apple technique called “UltraFusion” seems to be allowing Apple chips to function at previously unheard-of levels. The Apple Mac Studio, a desktop computer that sits in between the Mac Pro and the mini, will feature it when it launches in March 2022.

The Apple M1 Ultra, the company’s most powerful processor to date, has been revealed

  • There are a number of enhancements to the Apple M1.
  • The most cores ever on an Apple chip: 20 CPU cores and 64 GPU cores.
  • M2 has almost 7 times as many transistors as M1.
  • Up to 128GB of unified memory is supported (RAM)
  • Neural Engine with 32 Cores
  • As compared to Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3090 discrete GPU, Apple says M1 Ultra provides up to 200W reduced power consumption.
  • Apple boasts that the Ultra can handle up to 14 ProRes feeds concurrently for professional videographers.

What will the price and availability be for the Apple M1 Ultra?

To buy a desktop with the M1 Ultra CPU, you’ll have to fork out at least $3,999. Pre-orders are being accepted today on Apple’s website, and shipments will begin on March 18th.

Specs of the Apple M1 Ultra

Because it shares a single pool of RAM memory with the other M1 processors from Apple, the M1 Ultra is more efficient and has less latency than other M1 chips. A previously unknown “secret feature” of the M1 Max, a silicon interposer capable of 2.5TB/s interprocessor bandwidth, is used to create the M1 Ultra, according to Apple.

It may be said that the M1 Ultra is a combination of two M1 Max processors, each with a maximum of 128 gigabytes of memory each.

There are 114 billion transistors in the M1 Ultra, which is more than twice the M1 Max’s 57 billion transistors, and a 20-core CPU with 16 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores.. In addition to the 128GB shared pool of memory, it can access up to 800 GB/second of memory bandwidth.

Additionally, it contains a 64-core graphics processor, which is roughly 8 times more powerful than the original M1 microprocessor. More than that, it boasts a 64-core Neural Engine for even greater picture processing.

Outlook for Apple’s M1 Ultra

Given that the M1 Max exceeded my expectations in 2021, the thought of a new top-end M1 processor that is essentially twice as powerful is quite interesting. We were anticipating a new M2 chip to be released early in 2022, rather than a new top-end M1 chip like the Ultra.

As with any new hardware, we won’t know for sure until it arrives for testing and evaluation if this new high-end Apple silicon helps the Mac Studio compete with the finest PCs available.
