Whether you’re a new Apple user with one of the latest and greatest iPhones or have been using iOS for years, Apple always has a surprise or two tucked away in its gadgets.
As a new user of iOS 15 via the iPhone 13, I recently discovered a feature tucked away in the Settings app that made me feel less guilty about putting my Pixel 6 on the shelf.
Hidden under the Accessibility section of the Settings app is a function similar to Google’s promoted Quick Tap feature on Pixel phones, which was introduced to the Pixel 5 as part of the Android 12 upgrade.
While it is comparable to Quick Tap, Apple’s version is more adaptable. Unlike Android, which only enables double taps, Apple’s solution lets you to triple tap the back of the smartphone to perform things like launch an app, switch on the torch, or even scroll up and down.
It’s perplexing that Apple doesn’t push Back Tap on iPhones, given it’s a very helpful function that may radically change how you use your handset. Follow our instructions below to enable Back Tap and unleash a world of new possibilities for your iPhone.
How to enable Back Tap on iPhones
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Scroll down and tap “Accessibility.”
3. Tap “Touch.”
4. Scroll to the bottom and tap “Back Tap.”
5. You’ll now see “Double Tap” and “Triple Tap.” Here, you can assign an action to one, or both, of these options. To do this, tap “None” next to the option you want to choose.
6. You’ll now see a list of available actions. Once you’ve chosen one, tap it so a checkmark appears by it, then tap < to set it.
There are numerous alternatives available, such as launching the camera, Control Center, or Notification Center, or taking a screenshot. You may also use it to adjust the volume or return to the Home screen.
One of the better use cases, in our opinion, is to set scroll up to a double tap and scroll down to a triple tap (or vice versa), and then read large articles one-handed. There are numerous alternatives.

To try it out, simply double or triple press the back of your iPhone, depending on your preference, to see Back Tap activate. However, if you have a case on your iPhone, Back Tap may not work, and your phone must be running iOS 14 or later.
