Adobe Premiere Elements 2022 review: Price
The price of Adobe Premiere Elements remains unchanged until 2022, and unlike Adobe’s Creative Cloud products such as Photoshop CC, you are purchasing a perpetual licence. It costs $99.99 for a new purchase. A $79.99 upgrade from a prior version is required. Alternatively, it is available in a bundle with Photoshop Elements 2022 for $149.99, or as an upgrade for $119.99.
Adobe Premiere Elements 2022 review: System requirements
Adobe Premiere Elements 2022 is compatible with both Windows and Mac computers that have Intel 6th generation or newer CPUs or AMD equivalents (7th generation preferred).
You’ll also need at least 8GB of RAM (16GB for HD media, 32GB for 4K media); 4GB of GPU VRAM; a 1280×800 display resolution (at 100% scale factor); a fast internal SSD for programme installation and cache; an extra high-speed drive(s) for media; and an internet connection. Premiere Elements 2022 cannot be installed on a case-sensitive file system volume or on removable flash storage devices.
Windows 10 version 2004 or later (version 21H1 recommended), 64-bit version only, HEIF/HEVC import supported only on Windows 10 version 1903 or later; 6.7GB of hard-disk space for installation and 13GB additional for optional content; DirectX 12 compatible sound and display driver; Windows Media Player; and a compatible DVD burner required to burn DVDs are required.
You’ll need macOS 10.15 or macOS 11, 8GB of hard disc space for installation, and an additional 11GB for optional material on Apple computers.
Adobe Premiere Elements 2022 review: New features
Social-media-ready videos
The majority of consumer-created videos wind up on social media. And, for optimal viewing, each network has a specified aspect ratio. Following in the footsteps of Photoshop Elements (and other consumer photo-editing products), Premiere Elements 2022 now allows you to select the aspect ratio of your video clip according on where it will be uploaded.
The aspect ratio of your video may be defined when you create your project, and the process is as simple as you’d imagine.
You may also export your video based on social media preset sizes, as well as presets for different devices like a TV or a tablet.
This is a fantastic addition to Premiere Elements for anyone who shares videos to social media, which is most of us. Twitter, unfortunately, is not one of the networks that can be set up or exported. Choose 1280×720 (landscape or portrait) or 720×720 for Twitter.
Reframing your video
When you make or export a video in a different aspect ratio than the original, black borders are automatically added. These borders are required in order to avoid cropping any of the action. However, you can utilise the Adobe Sensei AI reframing tool to fill the frame with the main action in your movie. The extraneous material will then be trimmed away.
Assume I want to make a vertical project but want to use a horizontal clip. Sensei will examine the horizontal clip and do its best to retain the central action within the vertical crop.
In my experience, it occasionally omits critical detail because not every core action frame will fit into the set aspect ratio. But, aside from that, Sensei AI reframing makes it easier to construct smooth, appealing video projects by combining recordings with varied aspect ratios. Just keep in mind that it works best if you film wide, giving plenty of free space surrounding the main action of your videos.
Better support for vertical videos
When you open a vertical video in a new project, the project’s aspect ratio will now be automatically changed to match the clip. Furthermore, when elements such as titles, mattes, or backdrops are added in a vertical project, they will automatically resize. Given how many people hold their phones long when filming videos, this new feature is bound to be popular.
Two new guided edits
Premiere Elements 2022’s Guided Edits feature teaches users how to use important video editing procedures. It’s a straightforward system in which you work on your own videos in the Expert tab, with pop-ups helping you. However, while the Guided Edits are often excellent for assisting you in mastering what may appear to be complex processes, they frequently skimp on explanations. I believe the goal is for you to learn with as little intervention as possible.
For example, who doesn’t have a video of that one beautiful moment that’s either too dark or not shining enough? The new Adjust Shadows and Highlights Guided Edit provides step-by-step directions for correcting or improving the exposure of a clip.
It walks you through the process of opening and inserting the clip into the timeline, using the Shadows and Highlights tool, playing the video to check the effect, and ultimately exporting it. However, it doesn’t explain how to change your settings once you’ve applied them.
The Adjust Shadows and Highlights Guided Edit is a useful feature to Premiere Elements 2022, and it enables users to experiment with and learn about these important controls and sliders.
The other new Guided Edit, Animated Overlays, is significantly more lighthearted: it shows you how to add animated butterflies, bokeh lights, snowflakes, clouds, and other effects to your film. Blend Modes, opacity, uniform or non-uniform scaling, rotation, and an anti-flicker filter are all available.
Adobe Premiere Elements 2022 review: Verdict
Premiere Elements is a fantastic consumer video editing programme that is ideal for both novice and advanced users.
We were satisfied enough with the value of the new aspect ratio options, the reframing tool, and the new Shadows & Highlights Guided Edits in the latest version to recommend upgrading to Premiere Elements 2022 on the strength of what they offer the average consumer videographer. And they make 2017 a terrific year for new users to download the trial edition and see if it’s time to eventually take the jump and get Premiere Elements.
