According to reports, Apple is working on a MacBook with a 20-inch screen foldable MacBook
An all-screen foldable MacBook would be Apple’s first attempt into foldables, unless the so-called “iPhone Flip” makes it to market before it.
The idea of a folding MacBook may seem strange, considering that Apple has yet to produce a touchscreen MacBook. Reports from respected display expert Ross Young suggest that the company has been working on an ultraportable laptop with a 20-inch display.
“We’ve included Apple to our foldable notebook plan. According to what we’ve heard, the biggest size yet has a lot of interest “Young made the comment.
When it comes to tech terminology, “notebook” is commonly used to refer to a very small laptop, therefore the notion of “folding MacBook” may be derived from Young’s knowledge.
The foldable gadget may potentially be a new product category for Apple, says Young. Apple pioneered this with the iPad more than a decade prior to that.
According to Young, a dual-purpose version of the gadget might be released. Because it can unfold into a display and be used with an external Magic Keyboard, it can double as a notebook and on-screen keyboard as well as a monitor in its folded state.
Adding to this, the 20-inch screen might potentially allow for UHD/4K quality, according to Young (or even higher). We may have to wait a lot longer, though, since Young thinks that the launch window will be “likely later” than 2025 and might be anywhere between 2026 and 2027.
In any case, “the fact that Apple has an interest in a foldable laptop, even if it is five years out, is positive news for the foldable area,” according to Young.
As previously reported, a research by Display Supply Chain Consultants suggests a release date of 2025 for Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone (also known as the iPhone Flip). Young originally predicted a launch in 2023-2024, but has now revised his mind after speaking with the team’s supply chain connections many times.
A foldable smartphone market entry “doesn’t seem to be in the company’s immediate future,” Young said.
In any event, it’s too early to tell whether or not Young’s claims are correct. Once Apple confirms it, we will have no idea what to expect. But considering his track record and his knowledge of the display business, we wouldn’t rule out the possibility of his assertions being accurate.
