According to a recent source, Twitter Articles, the long-form text feature, will allow for some basic text formatting and style.

Nima Owji, an engineer at Twitter, has been tinkering with the system to see if he can find out more about how the service plans to expand the existing 140-character limit. Some basic formatting choices such as bold text, underlining, and more are expected to be available to article authors.

Articles will be able to handle the following text formatting:

  • Bold
  • Code
  • Italic
  • Strike-Through
  • Underline

People may now submit lengthier material on Twitter, but nothing more is known at this moment.

As Owji pointed out in a response, Articles now show in a tabbed layout, but that might change before the functionality is distributed to the general public. According to a recent post from Twitter, the company said that it will be able to provide additional details shortly.

Since Twitter’s official iPhone app isn’t the greatest for interacting with the rest of the social network, users will be forced to utilise it in order to read and create articles on Twitter.
