Today's Wordle answer — solution #252, Saturday, February 26

Is Wordle your thing? Then you’re not the only one who feels this way. It’s a simple but addicting word game that millions of people play every day and then post their findings on social media.

However, not everyone is able to play every day. A 10-minute game could not be enough time for you, or you might be offline for 24 hours or longer. It’s also possible that you just forgot.

For the most part, the Wordle Archive is the only place you can go back and play past puzzles in the order they were originally published if you miss a day.

To check out the Wordle answer for today if you missed a game, follow the steps below. We’re here to assist, so don’t worry. In order to keep this post up-to-date, we’ll be adding the right answer every day. Additionally, if you’re looking for today’s Quordle answers, check out our page here.

However, if you don’t want to be spoiled for game #252, don’t read any further. Also, don’t sneak a look ahead of time to give yourself an unfair advantage over your buddies; that’s just plain unethical.

Today’s Wordle answer #252, Saturday, February 26

This brings us to our second-to-last Wordle of the day.

Today is a return to familiar territory: SPILL.

There will be sighs of relief after yesterday’s “fun,” when ‘Wordle 251 x’ was trending on Twitter, at today’s response. Actually, I’m seeing a lot of 3s and 2s on my stream.

Using one of Wordle’s greatest start words, STARE, I was able to complete it in around 3/6 of the time it would have taken someone else. With that, I got the S right away, and the letters that weren’t included revealed a lot more information as well.

As a starting point, it disclosed a great deal about the word’s ending. Wordles often end in E, as shown by the fact that 422 of Wordle’s potential responses do. Only 993 of the 2,310 potential solutions begin with the other letters, which are less prevalent near the conclusion.

My next thought was to use the letter Y, which appears in 363 Wordle responses. It only seemed natural to add the letters H and N, which are often seen in Wordle entries.

The letters I had ruled out and the fact that I had been verified meant that there were only a few remaining possibilities. I also realised that SWILL and SKILL had recently been featured responses, so they were ruled out as well.

SPILL is a pretty common word in the English language, ranking at 3,698 according to Word and Phrase Info.

Furthermore, I believe the majority of people are aware of its significance. For the sake of brevity, I’m just going to provide a few quotes from Merriam-lengthy Webster’s definition:

  • to cause or allow especially accidentally or unintentionally to fall, flow, or run out so as to be lost or wasted
  • to let out / divulge
  • the act or an instance of spilling

So, a pretty straightforward one all told. Let’s see what Wordle has in store for us tomorrow and in the meantime I’m off to play today’s Quordle.

What else should I know about Wordle?

Despite its October 2021 debut, Wordle didn’t gain widespread acclaim until the end of the year, when it became viral in January. Indeed, it was so popular that The New York Times purchased Wordle in early February for an undisclosed fee, bringing it under the umbrella of its new NYT Games division.

Using the NYT Games website, you may play it for free. That’s what both New York Times and the game’s designer have declared. Wordle hasn’t become any tougher since the NYT took control, despite popular belief.

You get six chances to guess a five-letter word in Wordle’s basic game. When you make a guess, you’re shown whatever letters of the target word you’ve selected and if they’re in the correct position.

It becomes green if a letter is positioned correctly. It becomes yellow if it’s in the word but in the incorrect position. When it’s not in the word, it’s greyed out.

One puzzle is completed each day, and everyone does so. Every day at 7 p.m. Eastern Time, Wordle resets, but if you’re looking for something to do while you wait, we’ve compiled a list of the greatest Wordle alternatives, such as Squabble, which is really stressful but also quite good, and Quordle, which lets you play four Wordles at once. We also enjoy the Wordle clone Worldle, the SWordle styled after Star Wars, and the Mathler centred on arithmetic.
