Spotify has no clue when it will catch up to Apple Music in terms of a key feature.

According to 9to5Mac, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek disclosed in a call with analysts and investors that the firm does not yet know when it would deliver HiFi audio functionality for its app. Ek attributed the delay to licencing concerns, adding the firm is in “continuous communication” to get new music features out the door. Many of the features that we talk about and especially that’s related to music ends up into licensing. So I can’t really announce any specific on this other than to say that we’re in constant dialogue with our partners to bring this to market.

Spotify previously said that HiFi music support will be available by the end of 2021, however as of 2022, the functionality is still unavailable and no timetable has been provided.

Spotify’s support for HiFi is comparable to Apple Music’s support for Lossless Audio, which will be available on the streaming music service in May 2021. The function, which allows users to stream music in greater quality, was made available at no cost to all service subscribers.

Spotify not only lags behind Apple Music in terms of Lossless Audio compatibility, but it also lacks support for Spatial Audio, another feature that debuted on Apple’s music streaming service last year. Users may listen to a song in 360-degree audio with the functionality, which adds support for music mixed in Dolby Atmos.

Spotify, in addition to trying to develop new features, is suffering customer reaction, with some artists removing their music from the platform in response to Joe Rogan’s programme.
