Last year, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and Debby Wu reported that Apple had tested a new iPad Pro with a glass back for wireless charging. Gurman stated in a recent edition of his newsletter that the new iPad Pro will be released in 2022.
While the new iPad Pro is still expected to include wireless charging, 9to5Mac’s Filipe Espósito reported today that Apple may have scrapped the glass back design after testing due to breakability concerns. According to the report, which cites sources familiar with Apple’s design plans, Apple has developed iPad Pro prototypes with a larger Apple logo made of glass, which would still allow for wireless charging.
One of the prototypes is said to have MagSafe with stronger magnets than the iPhone to prevent accidental damage, as well as faster wireless charging speeds than the iPhone’s MagSafe.
- Developers can now submit claims for payments ranging from $250 to $30,000 from Apple as part of the settlement of a lawsuit
- Netflix increases prices for all plans , with 4K streaming now cost $20 per month
Given that Apple internally prototypes several products, there is no guarantee that the iPad Pro with a glass Apple logo will ever be released, but rumours seem to agree that the next iPad Pro will have a new design of some kind to enable wireless charging. Beyond the 2022 timeframe, a more specific release date for the device is unknown.
