The latest Elden Ring trailer is 6 minutes of Souls-like splendour
Is Elden Ring similar to Souls? Is it a game like Soulsborne? Maybe it’s a dark fantasy version of Breath of the Wild and Sekiro? Maybe it’s a combination of all of the above, but something else entirely.
There’s a new trailer for one of 2022’s most eagerly awaited games, The Last of Us, which offers you a good idea of what to expect from the soon-to-be-released FromSoftware title.
From the start, it’s clear that Elden Ring leans more toward From’s brutally difficult dark fantasy games like Dark Souls. A ruined area with exquisite castles, mist-covered mountains, spindly trees, and an enormous ethereal tree serve as the background. All of it is beautiful in a moody kind of manner.
With Torrent, Elden Ring’s stallion, in the video, it becomes clear that this will be an open-world game rather than a collection of related areas. If you’re willing to go off the beaten road as you did in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you’ll find a world that’s just as dangerous.
Aside from the standard Souls-style dragon and leathery giants, the video showed off other monster adversary fights, including a multi-armed humanoid with airs of royalty. A freaky creature that appears like it’s comprised of numerous huge hands, as well as an unnerving doll-like humanoid with two sets of arms, have the air of Bloodborne about them, so one has to wonder just how the art team at From comes up with such… inventive concepts.
In the beginning, the combat appears like a mix of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, yet there’s a quickness to the movement that makes aggressive gamers happy. Although horseback combat is new, it seems like a lot of fun. Is this going to be as deep in strategies and skill as foot-based fighting? It isn’t obvious yet.
In terms of difficulty, Elden Ring’s trailer and early previews don’t give us much hope that it will be more approachable than the games that inspired and preceded it. If things grow too difficult, you may call phantom assistance in the guise of other combatants or a pack of wolves, as seen in the game’s trailer, It appears like you’ll also be able to play with two other people.
Elden Ring will be released on February 25th, and you can see for yourself in the video just how much fun you’re going to have when you do. It’s possible that Elden Ring won’t break any new ground in the gaming industry in 2022, but it appears like it will include features from some of the finest games ever made. Just accept that you’ll die a lot.
