As of now, Netflix has announced that the third and final season of Top Boy will be it’s last.
Second season of the drama, which aired on British broadcaster Channel 4 for two seasons before being cancelled in 2014, has recently begun on the streaming service.
Summerhouse Estate, a fictitious estate in the heart of London, is the setting for Top Boy, a film starring Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson (also known as rapper Kano). Two known drug traffickers, partners Dushane and Sully, are followed as they attempt to live a moral life but are seduced by the prospect of more money and prestige in their neighbourhood.
Prior to Netflix’s 2017 revival, the first two seasons of the sitcom aired on Channel 4 in 2011 and 2013. This choice was influenced in part by the fact that rapper Drake serves as an executive producer on the Netflix reboot.
For the first time, Netflix ordered a second season of Top Boy, which premiered on March 18, 2019, and which they called the show’s first season.
It has emerged that Walters and Robinson, the program’s stars and executive producers, have issued a statement in response to the announcement that the show is ending.
They explained their reasoning for the decision in this way: “We know how much this show means to everyone on our crew, and we know how much it means to you, if you’ve been following along from the beginning. We wouldn’t be where we are now if it weren’t for the support of everyone who has been a part of our life over the last decade.”
They went on to say: “When it comes to the show’s history, the new characters who have come into play have been an integral part of it, portraying each new tale in a raw, honest manner. Season three will be our last season since, in keeping with our initial purpose, every tale must have a conclusion. Opportunity to complete the voyage in the proper manner.”
What is the release date for the last season?
Announcing the new season and its conclusion, Walters also stated that production for the last season would begin this summer.
Top Boy’s last season is expected to air sometime in 2023, however the exact date is unknown.
