Kuo: coming 5-inch MacBook may not be MacBook Air

A new 15-inch MacBook is predicted by Ming-Chi Kuo, but he thinks it won’t be another MacBook Air, and it won’t come for at least a year.

There’s speculation that Apple may launch a 15-inch MacBook Air in 2023, according to a report on Wednesday from 9to5Mac.

A portion of those claims was disputed on Thursday by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on Twitter.

For the time being, he doesn’t know whether the next 15-inch MacBook will be called “MacBook Air” or something else entirely.

However, according to Kuo, the reported 15-inch laptop would still utilise the same 30W power adaptor as the MacBook Air. As a result, it’s possible that the device might still be part of Apple’s more affordable portfolio.

The revamp of the entry-level MacBook series is expected to take place in the second or third quarter of 2022, according to Kuo earlier this month. According to him, there will be no tiny LED display in the future model. Apple’s M1 processor, rather than the “M2” chipset expected by others, will remain, according to him.

An earlier version of this storey claimed that the new MacBook Air will adopt a design more in line with current MacBook Pro models rather than the Air’s tapered-off shape. More colour variations and a lighter and slimmer overall footprint have also been suggested in the past.
