According to Counterpoint Research, Apple’s iPhone 13 range boosted worldwide smartphone sales to $448 billion in 2021.
Despite component shortages, sales from smartphones increased by 7% year over year and 12% quarter over quarter in the fourth quarter of 2021. In 2021, Apple’s iPhone revenue is expected to reach $196 billion, the company’s largest quarterly revenue ever. This resulted in a 44 percent share of the worldwide smartphone market in 2013.
To top it all off, Apple’s iPhone 13 lineup’s triumph in the fourth quarter of 2021 drove smartphone prices up by 12 percent year-on-year. Another factor that contributed to this was the spread of 5G-enabled smartphones, which in 2021 accounted for over 40% of worldwide smartphone shipments, up from just 18% in 2020.
Demand for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models pushed up the average selling price of iPhones by 14%, to $825. It was also a boost for Apple’s market share in crucial growing economies such as the United States and China.
More over 85% of all smartphone sales were accounted for by the top five manufacturers. Both Xiaomi and Oppo saw a gain in revenue of 49 and 47 percent year-on-year, respectively, in the smartphone market. Both Xiaomi and Oppo have announced aspirations to fight Apple in the premium smartphone market on a worldwide scale.
