Don’t Make Me Go reviews
Currently, Don’t Make Me Go has a 55 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes based of 11 reviews. The movie has received largely negative reviews from critics.
Is it a fad? Angie Han of the Hollywood Reporter thinks so “As a father/daughter combo, John Cho and Mia Isaac are gorgeous and lived-in in this drama. Bittersweetness is lost in the third act due to a mistaken decision..”
No matter how you feel about the film’s “sweet and charming, and ultimately bold” dramedy, IndieWire’s Kate Erbland thinks it has a lot of heart and will “engender some very strong feelings.”
Variety’s Michael Nordine(opens in new tab) reports, “To the point of being confusing rather than distressing, the movie’s finale recasts everything that came before it in a less favorable light. That’s too bad, since this John Cho father-daughter story has more than its fair share of heartwarming moments before reaching the barrier of its problematic third act.”
“It’s life-affirming without being unduly sweet, it’s touching without being maudlin, and it gives you a good weep without making you feel bad for being a huge sap over a road trip movie,” writes SlashFilm’s Hoai-Train Bui in a glowing review of the movie.
