Here are all of the steps you need to use Discord on Xbox One.
And it’s not just with other Xbox players. Discord allows you to communicate with tens of millions of PC gamers — and now that Discord is coming to the PS5, PlayStation users will be able to join in on the fun. The popularity of Discord dwarfs that of other gamer-friendly apps like TeamSpeak or Skype, and it makes communicating and coordinating a breeze. Furthermore, configuring Discord on Xbox One is a breeze; here’s how.
1) Create a Discord Account.
The first and most important step is to create your own Discord account, which is simple and free. Simply choose a username and password, and include your actual email address so Discord can verify it. All of this can be done via the Discord mobile and desktop apps, as well as the Discord website.
2) Link your accounts.
To link your accounts, go to your Xbox One and select your gamertag from the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Choose Settings from the Home and System menus, then Account. You should then select Linked social accounts, which will prompt you to enter your Xbox account’s passkey.
From there pick the Discord tile and the linking process will get started.
3) Use the Discord app.
Head into the Discord app and select Settings, which looks a little like a gear. From there select Connections and then Add. From there pick the Xbox logo.
4) Enter your PIN.
Once you select that, a PIN will show up on your TV screen. Type it into the Discord app, and your accounts will instantly link together.
Discord on Xbox One: Overall impressions
As cool as having linked Xbox and Discord profiles is, Xbox’s Discord integration is extremely limited. Given that the app has been available on Xbox One for more than three years, there’s no telling when things will improve.
For the time being, this cross-platform Discord integration can only show you and your friends what you’re playing on Xbox One. And only on Xbox One, because Discord isn’t available on Xbox Series X or S.
This is useful for coordinating gaming sessions with friends, but it is only a small portion of what Discord has to offer on PC. In fact, the absence of cross-platform voice chat was a major oversight when Microsoft integrated the service into the Xbox ecosystem.
After all, communication is a big reason why Discord is so popular. Without that feature, as well as parties and groups, the Xbox One’s basic Discord integration is hardly a must-have.
Currently, the only functionality of this new cross-platform integration from either the PC or mobile Discord app is the ability to see what your friends are playing on Xbox One.
However, if you’re an Xbox gamer with a lot of friends who prefer to play on PC, the 5-minute setup time to link accounts and give your friends an easy way to see when you’re gaming might be worth it.
