Knowing how to fold a shirt properly comes in handy whether you’re using it for work shirts or a favourite weekend shirt. The same holds true if you’re short on closet or drawer space and must keep your clothes neat. After all, you’ve just pressed your shirt and don’t want any more creases!
When packing for a trip, knowing how to fold a shirt nicely comes in helpful for getting the garments into your luggage without a hassle.
Even if learning how to fold a fitted sheet seems difficult at first, it’s not impossible. However, it’s not difficult to do and can be completed in just a few simple steps. With these three simple steps, you’ll learn how to fold your shirt in a tidy and professional manner, and you’ll be ready to go.
Folding a shirt
Make a flat surface out of the buttoned shirt.
To make folding the shirt simpler, first button all the buttons. If you have a flat surface that provides you lots of room, like a table or your bed, make some room for yourself. Flatten any wrinkles with your hands as you put the shirt face down on the front side, with its arms wide apart, and fold it neatly.
If you want to ensure that your shirt is perfectly aligned, you may lay a cardboard template or wooden board in the shirt’s middle. You’ll generally find them in the shirt bag when you buy a new shirt, but you can always use a magazine.
The shirt’s sides should be tucked in.
As a last step, fold the shirt’s right side up to the centre of the back. Take hold of the shoulder and hem, then fold it in half horizontally to meet the vertical line in the centre. Afterwards, fold the sleeve to the point where the inner edge meets the side edge. Step 2: Repeat this process by folding one side of your shirt in half and then overlapping your second sleeve over the previous one.
The tail of the shirt should be tucked in.
To finish the look, fold the tail end of the shirt over the sleeves’ cuffs. This will give the shirt’s bottom a clean, even edge. Before doing anything else, tuck this bottom edge into place just below where your top sleeve overlaps your lower one.
Once you’ve folded the shirt in half, you may neaten things up by folding the leftover top half over the tail end.
When you’re done, your shirt should have a square form with the collar protruding over its top edge and your buttons centred neatly in the middle.
