Fans of Halo Infinite have found a way to play the shooter in split-screen co-op despite the game mode’s official cancellation.

Although local campaign co-op for Halo Infinite had previously been mentioned, 343 Industries’ chief of creative Joseph Staten recently acknowledged that development on the mode had been abandoned. A fan on Twitter uncovered a loophole that enables users to access the feature that was cancelled, as reported by Eurogamer.

By using the clever menu bug, you may invite friends to join your campaign session and play Halo Infinite co-op with them. The Xbox Series X|S players seem to be the only ones who can access it, shutting PC users out of the fun.

How to play co-op in Halo Infinite

You must first launch the campaign alone in Halo Infinite, make a save file, and have a friend ready in the game’s main menu before you can play in split-screen co-op. They must be linked to the Halo online network whether they are playing the game on a console or a computer. then take the following actions:

  • Pick a campaign save file, then load it.
  • As soon as the game begins to load, press the View button on the Xbox Wireless Controller to access the ‘Social’ option.
  • Find your friend in the game’s menu by going to the “Friends” page, and then choose to join their fireteam.
  • Go return to the ‘Social’ menu, identify the fireteam you’ve just joined, and pick to leave
  • Go to the ‘Server’ settings screen and choose ‘Local Offline’ for the server configuration.
  • When playing a multiplayer game on your console, add more controllers and link them to your Xbox profile as usual.
  • Click “Play” to begin.

Regardless of who created the internet lesson, the remedy is simple. No crashes, AI issues, or other flaws should prevent you from playing the campaign with a friend. The method, according to a different Reddit user, also permits four-player cooperative gaming.

But don’t count on the workaround to last long. As a bug, it will probably be fixed in a subsequent version, and 343 is not expected to ever offer an official replacement.

Staten added in the video update, “We’ve had to make the tough choice to not ship campaign split-screen co-op, and use the resources that we would use on that [to] go after… all of these other features.” These “other stuff” consist of bug patches, quality-of-life upgrades, and live service content.

Cooperative online campaigns are still an option. It’s likely to roll out in the game’s Winter Update period between November 8 and March 7, overshooting its August release timeframe that was set after many delays. Two new multiplayer maps, a free 30-tier combat pass, the beta Forge mode, Covert One Flag, and a new competitive game style will all be added to the game.

However, it’s possible that Halo Infinite’s local co-op option fell short of expectations. Even while it’s enjoyable, online co-op, which has been in testing for a few weeks, doesn’t keep the campaign interesting.
