Google Stadia, its game streaming service, will end on January 18, 2023, the company has stated.

While customers will still be able to use the Stadia controller as a wired controller for PC games that aren’t on Google Stadia, gamers will no longer be able to access their Google Stadia game libraries by mid-January.

Fortunately, Google’s Vice President and General Manager of Stadia has said that Google would “refund all Stadia hardware purchases made through the Google Store, and all game and add-on content purchases made through the Stadia store” in the official blog post on the shutdown.

With the “majority” of reimbursements expected to be finished by mid-January, according to Google, the company has answered frequently asked concerns regarding the refund procedure on a page in its help centre.

In November 2019, Google Stadia launched in early access without many of the better features that had been promised in marketing materials for the service, which is a kind way to put it. Many of its social and multiplayer functions, such as achievements, Crowd Play, which would let viewers play alongside streams they were watching, and Family Sharing, which would allow families to share games on one device, were among these.

Yet despite these setbacks, Google promised that it would continue to work on Stadia and make it a gaming platform that players would love.

As recently as July 29, 2022, Google told fans in a tweet that “Stadia is not shutting down” saying that it would continue to work on the platform and bring great games to it.

And steadily, Google did improve Stadia’s features adding many of the ones missing at its launch. On top of that, it added a few platform-exclusive games and expanded the Stadia library with third-party titles too.

However, the advancements were never quite sufficient to match up with its competitors in the game streaming market, such as Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Nvidia GeForce Now.

This is a breaking news item, and we will update this page with any additional information as it becomes available.
