Apple may have a Galaxy Z Fold counter-punch, but not soon
Samsung led the way with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. Despite some major shortcomings, both phones are technical marvels of the highest kind. Apple’s iPhone Flip plans have been rumoured for a long, and now we have further evidence.
According to 9to5Mac, well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has two pieces of news. According to him, we shouldn’t anticipate a foldable iPhone until 2025, down from 2024. The company is known for being slow to adopt new technology, and foldables are no exception.
A phone/tablet hybrid, like the Galaxy Z Fold, is more significant. It is a tablet when folded, yet it is a phone when folded. So big that it would overwhelm the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s 9-inch display.
Given that the 9-inch display “is to validate critical technologies and may not be the final product standard,” Kuo’s risk-aversion is understandable. Apple has a small, medium, and giant foldable plan, he said. It’s unclear what those ambiguous dimensions signify, but a foldable MacBook is reportedly in the works.
Apple may opt not to enter the foldable market for now. The product category is very young, so concerns like durability and battery life need to be worked out first. Based on recent Galaxy Z sales, these gadgets appear to be enticing many consumers.
Wait till 2025. Then again, Apple may decide to abandon its foldable iPhone ideas. A Galaxy Z Fold-inspired iPhone or a Galaxy Z Flip-inspired iPhone would be our choice.
