Apple HomeKit devices may now be controlled through an iPhone or iPad widget.
But it seems that Apple isn’t alone in its attempts to make HomeKit simpler to use, and the business hasn’t given up yet.
A new third-party programme called Home Widget has come to the aid of Apple’s HomeKit. A dashboard for creating iPhone and iPad HomeKit widgets is what Home Widget is. This means that using Home Widget, your iPhone can be turned into a powerful HomeKit controller if you know a little bit about how to do it.
Key aspects of the app are free. Widget backgrounds may be customised to match your device’s wallpaper (or theme, if you’ve created one) without having to pay a fee for Home Widget. The big widget can have up to 12 separate controls, whereas the smallest widget can only have one control.

To control my Nanoleaf Shapes and two separate Philips Hue lights in my living room, I created a medium-sized panel with three HomeKit buttons in minutes after installing Home Widget. To keep things simple, I gave each control a basic on/off function; however, Home Widget includes dimmer choices and controls specific to a certain device. I’m even capable of using a single device to operate many devices.
If you want to operate the finest HomeKit gadgets on your iPhone or iPad, Apple has a built-in solution. In the device settings, I can add HomeKit controls to the control centre, but they aren’t visible until I slide down from the top of my phone’s screen to see them.
Why aren’t there any HomeKit-specific widgets? Weather, Apple News, photographs, screen time, and more are all included in Apple’s HomeKit, making it a logical addition for those who use it often, or even those who only have a HomePod mini.
The Home Widget app seems to be doomed to oblivion when Apple adds a native HomeKit widget in a subsequent software release, if not in iOS 15. However, Home Widget has already convinced me to use HomeKit more often than I typically do.
There is a paid version of Home Widget that costs $3.99 a year or $8.99 for a lifetime licence, but it doesn’t seem to add anything to the experience. Widget buttons may be hidden, and the frequency with which they are refreshed is customizable for Premium users. The free version of Home Widget is still extremely powerful and highly recommended for any HomeKit user, but there are also sophisticated controls for the top smart home gadgets with sensors like motion detection.
