The former wife of Sergey Brin’s co-founder, Elon Musk, has denied having a romantic relationship with him.
The Wall Street Journal claimed on Sunday that Musk, 51, had a “brief affair” with Nicole Shanahan last fall, and cited persons familiar with the case in reporting his response to the report on Twitter.
Reportedly, they were longstanding friends, with Brin even donating $500,000 to Tesla during the financial crisis of 2008. Brin’s home in Silicon Valley is where Musk has “frequently crashed” over the years, the Wall Street Journal reported.
There has been a rise in animosity between Brin and Musk since their purported “liaison,” according to the publication’s sources, with Brin suggesting that his financial advisers sell their personal investments in Musk’s companies.
They did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment, nor did they comment to the Wall Street Journal.
Tweeted by @TeslaMusk, who tweeted an item from the Wall Street Journal with a caption alleging that Musk “supposedly banged Google co-founder Sergey Brin’S wife leading to the couple’s divorce petition” and that “the two are presumably no longer friends.”

In early January, Brin requested a dissolution of marriage from Shanahan, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
Together, the couple has a little child. While Brin was previously married to 23andMe co-founder Anne Wojcicki, the couple had two children together: Benji, 13, and Chloe, 11; they divorced in 2015 after a nine-year marriage.

According to Business Insider, Brin and Shanahan hired a private “temporary judge” to preside over the lawsuit.
Brin filed in Santa Clara Superior Court as California is dealing with a backlog in the courts. The couple’s divorce will be expedited by the use of a private temporary judge, notwithstanding the courts’ backlog. Additionally, it provides a greater degree of privacy.
